What sucks is our location was the only non-Chinese buffet for a hour's drive in any direction and was pretty good as many times as I went as a kid. Corporate got REALLY bad coverage in the local TV news when it happened, interviews with suddenly unemployed cooks and servers that come to open and found the building locked one morning, etc.

I love the chowder whenever I go to a Golden Corral, and I always get seaweed salad when I visit our local good Chinese buffet. I also load up at the salad bar if there is. It's about getting what you really like and as much of it as you want, not worrying about an imaginary competition. That said if you ever REALLY want to beat the buffet forget the meats/carving station and seafood. No, if you want to be sure you get your money's worth go to the dessert bar FIRST and eat as much cake, pie, pastries, chocolate, nuts, etc as you can. Those are the real high-dollar menu items and they count on you being mostly full from the main course items before hitting the sweets.

I don't really have any buffet stories, because we don't really eat at buffets, except Indian buffets, and people there act normal, at least from what I've seen.
The only story I have is this:

Went to a fancy buffet for my birthday once. About 80 bucks a head. They had a sushi bar with made to order sushi, naan oven with made to order naan. Peking duck pancakes, crab, a chocolate fountain. A proper carvery with decent quality roasts instead of the wierd mystery cut with the rubbery bits running through it that most buffet carverys have. All over a very nice experience. Very expensive obviously, unless you're going to eat 80 bucks worth of duck pancakes, but of course that was the most popular station so enjoy waiting in line like a dumbass.
