If you're looking for cheap and cheerful, you'll be replacing it often. Seriously consider biting the bullet and investing in a mid tier one like the hario pro for like $60ish usd.

Thanks! They are what I think is closer to a butter cookie; the ones grandma's use the tins to hold sewing supplies. I actually use a thumbprint cookie recipe from allrecipes, but dont do the thumb print part. I just roll them into smallish balls and smoosh them with a fork. The recipe is pretty versatile and have made a wide range of flavors with it. Thus batch I made three juice of one lemon, and a big dollop of rassbery jam to make raspberry lemonade flavor.

I'd agree with the fellow poster suggesting the Lido. I didn't get the E like I should of and ended up getting the 3, but I've owned it for 2 years now with no problems in getting the grind I need.

James Hoffmann has a video that covers grinders that fall into the price range of the lido.

Two things which seem to also be common on all cheap ones:

I only mention the brand names as they are low end. None of my crap is expensive and a lot of it can be repurposed for other stuff. So don’t buy Mecraft because it’s better, buy any old $10 dripper is my point. I actually brewed coffee right in my cup until I got the dripper, just held onto the filter and poured over so it was almost like a teabag - actually made really great, strong coffee. One other thing, if you’re new, get darker roast as it has less caffeine.

A burr grinder. I'm not gonna try to convince you to spend more money than you want to but baratza encore is a pretty good starter grinder, it's a one time purchase for something that will give you pretty great results for a long time, or you could go the cheaper hand grinder route with something like a hario or porlex. Blade grinders just smash the beans into an extremely inconsistent size distribution, so bigger pieces will extract slower and the fine particles will extract really fast, so basically your cup will have a lot of sourness and bitterness with no real balance, and it won't produce any consistency between uses

TL;DR I have something similar to pic related and I recommend it for cold brew and iced tea.

I got this hario filter bottle but it's only 65cl. It's annoying to clean out if you want to avoid getting sump down your sink. Taste like normal cold brew. You have to drink everything up before you can brew another batch so you kinda need another bottle to store the brewed coffee in. Overall I think it's good and worth a buy.

cold brew concentrate. about 1 part beans to 4 parts water by weight, french press grind, stir and allow to steep at room temperature for 8-16 hours, filter with french press (or paper filters, but it will be SLOW), chill, dilute with milk or water to taste.

honestly, extraction is so slow that it's pretty hard to spoil a batch, so you can vary ratio and steep time quite a bit and still get a perfectly tasty brew.

Either your using coffee grinds with too many fines or it just not your type of cup. Moka makes a poormans espresso so it can have a bolder flavor compared to pour over. They are not a meme though.

>>12390010
>does it need milk
No. Much like espresso you can add milk, drink it straight or add a little hot water. I only have two cautions to give about drinking it straight: I'm guessing your using a "3-cup" moka which depending should be fine if drank straight. There was an anon on here that said they tried drinking a "6-cup" moka pot straight and it fucked with their stomach. Other consideration to drinking it straight is the acid content of your coffee. I got a coffee from drinktrade that while good, was so acidic that even after adding hot water and a bit of half&half, the creamer would curdle a little bit; no the half&half wasn't old I tested it.

So yeah as long as the coffee your brewing isn't stupid acidic and your not drinking over "3-cups" you can drink it straight, but feel free to add water or creamer if desired.

About to make some coffee after seeing this. I used to use a shitty Cusinart drip brew with already ground coffee but I've changed my ways in the past few months. I personally think it tastes great and it's always consistent. I like the fact that all the grounds get wet at once and stay that way until it's done brewing. I think it brings out the flavor more while not being overly acidic. The first time I tasted it I noticed it was much more "clean" tasting.
I also like that there's a very small amount of waste. Some of them use paper filters which are a lot smaller than regular coffee maker filters, but I have a Bodum ePebo and that uses a plastic filter. The only waste I have is the grounds.
They are fun to look at and I always end up watching it work because it's cool looking. Makes for a decent conversation piece too since they look kinda crazy.

Haha not quite the coffee is grown in Cuba, which despite a shitload of problems is blessed with good soil for things like coffee , sugarcane, or tobacco. While o agree most people overhype Cuban cigars because of the “forbidden fruit” aspect they do make legitimately good cigars, rum, and coffee. >> No.12392792

>> No.12392826

Can’t argue with free, but call it personal preference but I enjoy Cuban coffee, especially made as espresso or a cortado. The standard Havana Club is pretty average but the more exclusive offerings are sometimes worth it. Not to mention how cheap good-to-great product is down there. Out of curiosity which rums and coffees did you dislike down there? Of course like most /ck/ stuff most of it comes down to personal preferences.

>> No.12392862

>>12392826
I don't dislike Cuban rum, I just don't think it's all that exciting. Pretty average non-French Caribbean style of rum. Light bodied, goes down easy, can be good, usually forgettable. Same as Dominican, Jamaican, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rican. If they sold it in American liquor stores I might buy it sometimes for variety, but there's nothing special about it.

The coffee is all burned cinders, ground up, and then stored in a scorching warehouse for weeks. Could it be good? Who the fuck knows. I wouldn't bet on it, but I could be wrong. But grinding just before brewing, or stopping the roast before the second crack? De-gassing? No need, it will never see a cup that soon. That's not how they do things there. Like the rest of the Caribbean they stop the roast when there's fire coming out of the roasting machine, grind it up, stick it in a can, and a year later push some hot water through it and add milk and a ton of sugar. It tastes good, sure. But so would anything. And it all tastes the same. Exactly. The. Same.

As far as I know, you aren't really going to get a good machine, unless its on a deep discount or like a manufacturers sale or something, for less than 400.

Moka pots make a semi-espresso kind of coffee and you can get good ones for 30-60 bucks. It isn't the same as coffee, but it can have that sort of deep, nutty, crema-topped coffee.

If you're gonna get a home machine, I suggest raising your budget to like 400-700 or even higher and do research into the best machines.

On the CBD thing buy from a lab tested brand not head shop shit. You can purchase CBD isolate instead of full spectrum, though the full spectrum has the "entourage effect" of other cannabinoids interacting for a better overall effect. With isolates you don't have any THC, though even with full spectrum I don't think you will test positive for THC unless you're doing a shit ton of it. Been a while since I looked into this stuff but I bought from Nuleaf, I think bluebird botanicals is a good brand too. It's expensive for sure but I didn't use the "recommended dose" of 10 drops and just did one in the morning, one at night and it did wonders for my anxiety. Learning the machine and experimenting with profiles is going great! Once I've settled in a bit, I'll pick up a bunch of one coffee and start my first actual serious experiment with it. I'll probably start with measuring the effects of preheating coffee grounds on temperature curves and extraction yield.

I'm also planning some experiments on measuring the effects profiles have on sediment in the cup, and using blind cupping to determine if this sediment is a reliable measure of body. Something like develop a method that produces a low sediment cup and one that produces a high sediment cup. Then centrifuge a sample to measure sediment weight per ml of sample as well as blindly try to pick out the cup with higher body. I'd like to develop a whole suite of measurements to paint a fuller picture of what a coffee is like than extraction yield alone.

I do have a french press and I really do enjoy french press coffee but I have been drinking this k-cup stuff for a while now. Is k-cup stuff okay?
