Why are steakhouses so over priced? I can see charging a bit more to make profit, but 60 or 70 bucks for a steak you can make yourself for like 15 is insane.

Just go buy steaks yourself. You’re unlikely to get a good quality steak even at the market for under $15. Mark that up 4x for profit and there you go. If a restaurant doesn’t profit, they won’t sell it.

This. It's very hard to get the quality of meat that steakhouses are getting just from your local grocery store chain.

Where do you live? Every steakhouse I've been to has low end steaks (8 oz sirloins) for under $20. Higher end steaks like 16 oz ribeyes are rarely even $30.

We're talking about real steakhouses, not Dennys or Applebees.

I am talking about real steakhouses. Do you live in some part of the country that doesn't raise much beef?

He probably lives in the city. Here in Seattle you won’t even find chicken fried steak for under $17.

Costco sells usda prime but you have to buy at least 4 steaks worth, which is 70$

That used to be true, but now even in my flyover shithole both Kroger and Sam's are carrying prime cuts and you can dry age them yourself if you feel you must.

House primed meat is much better than the USDA shit that we get at big block stores.
They even source it better some steakhouses getting their beef from private farms or from established farms overseas that you just won't find at your local costco or sam's club.
Better ingredients and a consistent perfected steak is 100% worth the cost to me and many others.

Average $40 USD for things like strip.
Higher end I could end up paying upwards of $70, for a cut of meat I can get a local meat market that hasn't had as robust an aging at $30 a portion.
I'd say it's a good trade-off because I know I would buy it and it wouldn't come out half as good because I know I'm not a professional that makes steaks every single night.

$70 for a steak you cook at home?? Easy there moneybags

Exactly, I have the money so spending $100 dollars on myself for a nice glass of wine and a delicious meal once every few months is definitely worth it for me.
I can come home after work and make something with less quality or I can enjoy my night with my family and friends and do just that and enjoy it.
Good steak isn't something I have everyday, I am more than fine with preparing something decent every other day.
