I used to think free range was a meme until I accidentally bought free range eggs. The colour was better when cracking them and they tasted much more vibrant. I only buy free-range now and I encourage anybody who cares about the quality of their food and is not financially struggling to do the same. You really don't know what you're missing.

If you start putting yourself in the animals position the the left is terrible, BUT animals aren't humans. They don't think like humans, they don't feel thing like humans, they're sole purpose is to be used as food by us. You can. The intensive farming is solely for the farmers convenience. If the animals are confined shoulder to shoulder in warehouses it's much easier. Those warehouses are usually located isolated acerages which are plenty large enough to handle the same quantity of animals as the warehouses, but it requires more effort. Hence, why extensive farming products cost more to produce

There are differences. Conventional in cages (90% of US production) they barely have room to stand but cannot stretch wings or turn around. Cage free they can move around freely, jump on perches, take dust baths, etc. Free range is the same but have access to the outdoors although they may never choose to go out.

There aren't two options, factory farming embodies the culmination of technological advancements necessary to sustain a population of 8 billion+ people.
