Why are all chefs drunkards? Are we naturally drawn to the profession or does the shitty work make us alcoholics?

This is a tough question. Because a lot of chefs I know had indications of improper opinions of alcohol use before they worked in a kitchen. But I’ve also seen them lose their shit in a matter of weeks in a kitchen. I think it’d make an interesting study.

for a half second I read this as "the drink or the coke" because a large number of chefs have a drug problem too

Well Bourdain did say in his book that you have to be fucked up some degree to survive as a professional chef.
