Pho

I have never really gave a shit about any ramen i tried. The only difference is is that there is usually a longer line for ramen for a more expensive and smaller bowl of noodles that have a very mild flavor.

Whereas pho, go to any pho place, get pho within minutes, toss in a bunch of vegetables and sauce and go tl town. Lots of flavor.

When i went to japan i noticed that the ramen comes out fucking quick, just like at a pho place, whereas all ramen places work slow in the states. Makes sense to me why i prefer pho. Its a fucking bowl of noodles. You have broth and noodles and a bowl to serve to me. No reason to take long other than youre a yuppie chef that is too busy fingering your hostess.

Both can be absolutely delicious but here in Cuckmefornia, they jack the fuck out of the price of ramen. I went to a new ramen place here and they charged me $14 for a small bowl not including tip. I can get a bowl or pho for half that price. Fucking scary thing is that wasn't the most Ive paid for a bowl of ramen, the most I paid was $25.

Regarding flavor though, pretty much all types of ramen whether it be shoyu, shio, tonkotsu, miso etc.. has this rich, complex unctuous flavor that's super satisfying. Pho has this super clean beef flavor. it doesn't have a ton of toppings but it doesn't need it. And it's light, refreshing and delicate in flavor unlike ramen where it's bold

Pho is one specific soup where as ramen encompasses a dozen different styles and is constantly being experimented with and improved. It isn't fair to compare them.

Personally I like ramen better because of the variety. however, When I want pho I get pho. There isn't any ramen that satisfies are craving for something like pho..

Having said that, ramen isn't worth it unless you are in japan. And even then, as a tourist you are limited in your options because all of the best ramen shops have long lines which is a huge waste of your limited time in the country. Personally I live in Japan and ramen is my favorite food, but you simply can't appreciate it if you don't live here.

I fuckin love you shmucks.

Worked in a pho spot for a year. Also worked in a ramen spot for a year.

Ramen, unless you are paying an assload, is almost always ass.
Unless your ramen noodles are being handmade, it is really not worth going unless it is cheap af or if the flavor is just that good. I go to a place that makes their own noodles sometimes and it is pretty great.

Pho though... that is a real mans soup.

The broth takes 24 fucking hours to make, giant fuckin femurs are being broken in the back and simmered just to make the broth. It is incredible.
When you order your pho, all your ingredients gets placed in a bowl, including bouled noodles, then they take a ladle, swirl around the broth so the 1inch thick layer of fat at the top moves to the sides, and they skillfully pluck a ladle full of clear clean delicious broth and plop that into your bowl, cooking any paper thin meat instantly, and heating the ingredients to a boiling hot temp.

TL;DR ramen is shit expect at its highest quality. Pho is very often SO MUCH bang for your buck, way more effort put in, and never leaves you feeling like you just got robbed in a pearl harbor v2 scenario

Incorrect. Average price is 1000 yen. Even the fanciest michelen star ramen is only a bit more expensive

Most shops don't make their noodles in shop, but do get them from reputable distributors who hand make them. Lots of top tier noodles are not made in shop

Same can be said of Ramen. The thought and time that goes into creating the soup for ramen is astounding it takes an autistic amount of dedication. You claim to have worked in a ramen shop but I wonder what kidn of shop it was because it sounds lame as fuck.

There's plenty of great ramen in Hawaii and California, if you're not an idiot about where to go. There's huge Japanese populations in both states, so yeah, they know ramen. There's tons of Vietnamese too, but just like the ramen, there's good and bad. I live in NorCal, and I've had awesome and inexpensive ramen, terrible ramen, good pho, and fucking disgusting pho. Just depends on where you go.

Laksa is my favorite of all the pan-asian noodle soups. Spicy, creamy, delicious, delicious Laksa. But, there's not as many Malay or Burmese restaurants around here as there are Viet, Thai, and Japanese. I usually just end up going to 99Ranch and getting all the ingredients to make Laksa at home. I like making the paste from scratch, but sometimes I'll opt for the lazy choice and buy jarred Laksa paste. It's still good, just not as good.

Pho is more consistent because it's exceedingly simple to cook and not mess up.

Ramen is deeper, more complex and requires actual skill and years of experimenting to perfect and most western ramen restaurants run by hipsters and chinks lack the cultural background and history of eating all types of ramen in order to recreate something like that themselves.

Unless you're in japan, just eat pho.
