Good but overpriced as fuck

Shouldn’t have to pay $12 for a plate of oxtail curry only to get 3 bones with sliver of meat

Only good thing is coco bread and spicy beef patty in between

Caribbean is actually more Indian and Chinese. Depends on the Island. Trini for example has a large Asian decent population.

It’s all right. I was here for med school. It’s still a third world country outside of the civilized parts (Marriott, Port, etc). I’d get haircuts from the Dominicans in town. There’s a guy that sells street food named Verne that makes good food. He’s usually at the port or outside of med school during lunch. I also recommend Ting, it’s like a grapefruit drink or something.

The Strip was the highlight of it. The Vet school would go there every week to get drunk and party. The med students would go every month after block exams. Good times. I got drunk once and fell in a bush at the roundabout (going from the Strip to the Royal Hotel) and it left a huge imprint in it. It was nicknamed “anon’s bush”

There’s also some fancy places to eat dinner here too. Can’t remember the names of them though

Oh yeah and there was Bobsy’s wings. They sold wings out of an old shipping container (a lot of the houses were made of old shipping containers). I also remember ordering a lot of Indian food there. And Taiwan Tasty was another favorite of a friend and me.

I think there was a Church’s chicken by the movie theater and a KFC in Basseterre that was always filled with blacks. Also if you go there, be aware of “Island Time” people are slow and never on time there

Sorry for the multiple posts, I just keep remembering shit. You can also go hiking there too. A bunch of places, there’s a “waterfall” one and one that takes you up the volcano and down into the crater (it’s an inactive volcano). If you see an etching KT + CP in a heart, on the side of the volcano crater wall, that’s me

Med school for US rejects, all are private and expensive. Some in the past such as Ross were found to be fraudulently passing students. If Americans were aware of how many docs got degrees in Mexico and the Caribbean they'd rethink certification requirements lol.

>> No.12240465

>>12240415
I don't know how you can fraudulently pass students. We literally take the same medical licensing exam as everyone else (USMLE STEP 1, STEP 2, and STEP 3). Every actual doctor knows this, those who aren't in the medical field wouldn't know this. They just see where they got the degree from.

Then not only that, we still go through the same residency program along with all the other docs.

>In 1985, California state medical licensing officials (the Board of Medical Quality Assurance), began investigating RUSM, along with other medical schools located in the Caribbean.[4] The officials released a report stating that RUSM at that time had nearly no admissions standards, and that the school was in the business of providing medical degrees to "everyone that wants one."[4] RUSM agreed to implement a number of changes recommended by the board and has since graduated over 11,000 practicing physicians.[4]

No standards

Yeah, carib med schools have lower ADMISSION standards to get INTO school. But to actually finish and receive the MD degree AND actually practice medicine, you actually have to pass the USMLE exams sponsored by the National board of medical examiners. This exam is administered to US MD candidates, US DO candidates, and FMG (foreign medical graduates).

FMGs tend to have a higher attrition rate compared to US schools, but those who make it to the end and finish their exams are MD/DOs. Residencies as I've said are literally the same after medical school.
2 out of the 6-10 years of training is done in the caribbean (which is the didactic portion, anatomy, biochem, histology, neuroscience; literally the exact same classes you'd take in college) the other 4-8 years is done in the US working in hospitals or whatever practice under an attending physician

It's interesting a few of you have mention it's overpriced I don't get it there's no reason I should drop $15 (in los angeles) for jerk chicken. Ox tail i understand.

One thing that pisses me off about specifically Jamaican is that everything in theory is there to make an incredibly flavorful, deadly spicy dish but I find that usually everything is fairly flavorless. Like I think you could up the scotch bonnets and marinade but the traditional style is pretty tuned down, is that a fair assessment?

As a side note, northern columbian food, which is also Carribean, is fucking amazing. I got sick of it though because it's the only thing I ate when I was up north. My main complaint with them is that they don't fry their plantains sweet but they prefer the starchier, less ripened flavor. Also shout out to Columbian juice. If you haven't had it basically they powerblend (how do they afford such strong fucking blenders?) fruit whole like lime add a fuck ton of simple syrup and then strain the liquid. Man that shit is god's gift on earth after a cocaine and hooker binge...

Based Susie's hot sauce poster. It's not the most complex hot sauce, but it's perfect with heavy food's. Right amount of heat, with a sweet, but sharp fruity citrus tang. They're a couple places near me I have been meaning to try. Should I go with goat or oxtails?
