My dad caught a rat with his hands but it was as big as a cat, truly terrified me. Its tail looked like a garden snake, a creature of its own. Monster city cretin.

Now there are no rats but we do have ground squirrels or ground rats. I found out the best way to deal with them is just take a walk around your yard every now ans then and just pause around fresh dirt mounds. If youre lucky, theyll poke their heads out in front of you. Theyre blind and deaf so you just need to snatch them up out of their burrow. Before i used to shoot them point blank but thats a waste. Just snatch em up, twist their head, and toss to the dogs.

I had an issue with 1 rat for about 2 weeks living under my sink. The thing would torment me and narrowly avoided my traps to the point where it got pretty wise to them. Fortunately with enough persistence it finally got it's dirty ass skull crushed in one of them.

The constant clawing at the walls is the worst thing about them. It's like they're just fucking with you.
