What are your thoughts on Cincinnati chili? Skyline, Gold Star, etc.

For the uninitiated: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cincinnati_chili

Basically, it's spaghetti with a meat sauce and shredded cheese or a hotdog with meat sauce and shredded cheese.

Skyline chili is fucking foul. Spaghetti and chili? Fuck out of here.

Fair enough. I've lived in small towns my whole life, even went to college in a small town. So it will be a culture shock to me for sure.

The cinnamon in the chili really works. Except for the chili, the food is just average and I think they use too much cheese. I'd rather eat at Steak n' Shake.

We do things a bit differently here in cincinnati.

I always wanted to try it and mi heading to Chicago soon but don't think it would be worth the trip
is it served outside of Cincinnati?

Just buy the spice packets at the grocery store and make it yourself. It is infinitely better and extremely easy

Something about being in America makes me want to eat out.
I like the way you guys do it,the huge portions and the overly friendly staff it reminds me of the episode of the simpsons when moe has the burning fries on his head
I imagine a guy bringing me my spaghetti with the ridiculous amount of cheese singing and waving sparklers
spice packets and grating my own cheese would make me feel sad

Why do americans do this? I get it, cheese is fucking delicious, but that fucking plate probably has 2 days worth of maintenance calories for average human

Skyline > Gold Star
Coneys and chili cheese fries are good
Stay away from the spaghetti ways
That's my guide to Cincinnati chili

Love the stuff. Haven't been to the city but both the Hard Times and Skyline spice mix make for some amazing chili.

Cincinnati chili is SAVAGE-tier
>only real ass niggas can handle it
My cousin is a roid head SAW gunner and could only get halfway through a large 3 way.

Goldstar used to be the best.
They changed something back in the early 2000's and it's just never been the same.

Unfortunately eating out at any Cincinnati chili restaurant is not nearly as exciting as you describe it. The experience is closer to that of fast food dining, where you order your food and either pick it up or they bring it to you unceremoniously

Love it.
But don't eat it when you're traveling through.
I stopped at a Skyline in Erlanger driving from Indy to Lexington. Had a 3-way and 2 coneys.
Tasted wonderful, but just sat like bricks in my stomach all the way home. Heavy food.

>> No.12234153

>>12232359
Indifferent. There isn't a chain restaurant around I'd actually travel just to visit, and let's just say that anywhere there's a Skyline isn't exactly high up on my list of worthwhile travel destinations.

>>12232359
As a Cincinnatian, I think most people who dislike the chili haven't actually tried it. People hear that it has cinnamon and chocolate in it and think those flavors must be prominent, which WOULD be gross, but in reality they're very subtle. I would say it's just slightly sweeter than normal and has a "different" flavor that most people would not be able to attribute to cinnamon or chocolate without prior notice. It's definitely comfort food. I personally love it.

Chili parlors aren't fast food restaurants, they're diners. You sit down at a table and a server comes around and takes your order. You pay at the counter after you eat and leave a tip.

I fucking love it. I'm from Cincinnati and will be going back for a few days next week to help my family with a few things. My mom lives right down the street from a Skyline and I'll probably eat there twice at least.
