Grilling hot dogs

do americans really spend hours waiting for charcoal to heat to cook $0.40c of hot dog when they can just boil them?

I kind of envy propane fags for being able to grill like 4 hot dogs without having to fire up a proper grill. I still prefer the broiler on my toaster oven, though.

Hey how big are the flames supposed to be on a gas grill? My parents just bought one and the flames on the burners are super tiny. Like the size of a match head.
They haven't put any food on it yet but it seemed to get hot at least.

Probably bigger than that. You sure the gas valve is open all the way on the tank?

Depends on where you set the knob. On a low setting you should barely be able to see the flames. Match-head sized would be correct. On a high setting it should be like pic related.

there are lots of things to check:
-valve on the tank is open all the way?
-tank is full
-interior of grill is clean (bugs love making nests inside the venturi in the burners, this will make a tiny flame)

some gas grills have safety-limited valves, these can malfunction, or not work correctly if the wrong one is used on a larger grill.

Yeah the tank and grill are brand new, valve is open, flame on high. I have gas in my kitchen at home and those flames burn like in that picture, which is why I expected bigger flames. Maybe they were hard to see because it was sunny out.

They used it today and apparently it worked fine, so I guess it's supposed to be like that? It's this model https://www.jamieoliverbbq.com/shop/jamie-oliver-explorer-6500/
I guess if we just pay attention to the thermometer we'll find out.
