Can anyone recommend a quality countertop deep fryer? Or at least a decent brand. I'm looking at amazon and seeing a bunch that look cheaply made.

They're mostly good unless you go batshit and start trying to fry everything. I don't remember what the brand of my fryer is. I stopped using it since a wok and some oil is proficient for basically, everything unless you're a complete indigent dumbass.

I've used a pot a couple of times, it always ends up making more of a mess than I'd like. I don't mind paying $100 to not have to deal with oil splashes and such.

Looks okay. I'll take a look at some of the reviews.

review? ive owned one for 5 years, its fucking awesome. this is the anecdotal review you want to have. ive owned 2 before this and they were shit. this one dissassembles to clean, the basket doesnt get too shitted up, it heats quick, and it has a tight fitting lid.
lpt: use peanut oil to fry only

>fucking around with pots and thermometer
We, the Dutch, basically invented deep frying and everyone at the very least has a 20€ fryer somewhere. Using oil in a pot is fucking retarded, it will most likely ensure that you throw the oil away that is still perfectly fine for frying, or worse: use it for non deep-frying. And this is even outside of the fact that you most likely burn the oil and your food or splash the oil on your retarded self.

You can go apeshit of course with a multi fryer setup with different temperatures, but the most important thing is that you have a 'cold-zone' that traps all the bits falling off your food and that you can keep it clean easily. Best even are filters or ways you can tap off old oil from the machine without having to hold the damn thing pouring it through a funnel. Otherwise literally any shitty heating element will get your oil to 170 celcius.

Yeah, whenever my folks used a pot in the past the oil got burned to shit and thrown away the next day

also, OP can have the fryer I bought 12 years ago and used twice before i realized what a goddamned hassle it is to clean/store, when a simple deep Le Creuset pot will work perfectly

Waring commercial models.

How so? When you're done using it you put the lid back on it. That's it.

Yeah, you can deep fry in a pot, but a deep fryer has a huge advantage in that it contains a thermostat, and the models which have the heating element above the bottom of the pot require far less frequent cleaning.

Agreed, I just use a fucking dutch oven outside, pic related.. making schnitzel. When the oil cools down, i dump the shit back into the jug and save it for later. No cleanup involved.
