What's the point of drinking alcohol? The few times I've tried it it's either tasted like absolute ass or tasted like absolute ass that also burns. Everyone always says "it's an acquired taste" but that's a terrible defense for it. I used to be very anti-alcohol. Then I realized I just had some kind of control issue and fear of taking risks, and have started slowly trying different drinks. It's very relaxing to have a drink after work, takes the edge off when you're stressed.

And I also used to feel the same about the taste, but you start to enjoy the taste rather than simply tolerate it. Same as black coffee.

If you’re just starting out I’d suggest go with okay tier European lager like Dab or Hollandia or maybe experiment with some Belgian Ale like a Chimay white cap if you wanna try something different but tasty.
For whiskey I’d say stick with Jameson for easy drinking or Buffalo Trace for sweet brown sugar and cream corn as long as you can get past the alcohol, if not add water or ice.
Vodka is mostly shit unless you’re having it with caviar. Gin is hard to get into for beginners due to how strong the juniper can be. Tequila is mostly a meme, if you like smoky scotch I’d suggest trying some decent Mezcal instead as it’s basically tequila but better.

You can find 50mL's (shots/shooters/little bottles) of rum, whisky, brandy, vodka, gin, cognac, tequila, and almost any liqueur. Then you have quarter/half/pints above that 100mL/200mL/375mL.

Try 4 wines; a sweet red and white, and a dry red and white. These (rarely) come in 375mL's or 50mL's, and mostly 750mL, liters (small boxes), and so on, 2.5L, 3L... These are garbage and you should avoid them unless you're trying to impress a girl who still sees yoga pants as something 'fashionable'.

For beer; try to find a place that lets you make your own 6 pack, like Kroger (but only for this specific example) and mix-n-match 6 popular domestics and then do the same again another time for your popular imports.
Do a little research on your craft beers to learn what major styles there are and then give those a whirl.

This can all be done with less than $200 in a month. Make the gas investment if you have to, but try to find the best liquor store in your area that you can because 8:10 liquor stores only stock what they know most local drinkers want, and that's usually the bullshit trash like lite beers, local spirits, and white-girl wine.

Try Everclear, Colt 45/King Cobra, Four Loko, Steel Reserve, and whatever cheap bullshit you can that is specifically made to kill people and then you may be eligible to join the ranks of the Doomers.
