there's a lot of ways to make it, since it's really just braised pork butt. hell, carnitas would be one way of making pulled pork imo.

you don't need a slow cooker or a smoking set up to make it. i always used a dutch oven. you will need one of those tho, imo. in some way you gotta let it cook in liquid or smoke for several hours. (for smoking, you smoke at a low temp, then just wrap it up real nice and throw it into the oven to finish it.)

i guess you could probably use any large metal pot with a lid.

i haven't made it in forever, but i used to make some nice pulled pork with cider, chicken stock, spices, and sugar. forget the exact recipe tho, since i've been smoking my pulled pork for the last like decade.

always been jelly of those cast iron camp dutch ovens. shit comes out ridiculously nice when surrounded by coals.

>season pork with a rub
>put pork in big pot with lid
>pour 12oz of coke in the pot, not over the rubbed pork
>squeeze two oranges in coke throw in pot
>squeeze two limes over the rubbed pork, throw in pot
>put it on the burner on low setting for five hours, turning it over in the pot every 2.5 hours
And then i pull it, put it on some corn tortillas with a touch of my favorite bbq sauce, onions, cilantro and some sweet coleslaw. Shits cash yo

>> No.12201104

Better question, how in the absolute fuck do I store leftover pulled pork? Every time I make it in my slow cooker there's so much liquid that even with a slotted spoon and tongs the shit ends up solidifying in Tupperware in the fridge, which is plain disgusting. And obviously I can't eat 3 lbs of pork in one sitting.

If youre not keeping said juices to reheat the pork you're doing it wrong

>> No.12201127

>which is plain disgusting
Why? It's just the gelatin and/or fat getting cold. It liquifies once you warm it back up again.

>> No.12201144

>>12201113
>>12201127
Well in that case, how should I be warming it back up? A block of fatty pork isn't exactly easy to use and putting it back in the slow cooker just liquefies it more. I assume my microwave would fuck it up totally as well.

Last time I made pulled pork carolina style. Lots of cider vinegar and onions, I used chicken stock too which i feel was the weakest part of the recipe. I think a beef stock or maybe a demi glaze would serve the recipie better.

For BBQ pulled pork I use a slow cooker, and throw in the butt/shoulder with a chopped white onion, a splash of the spiciest, least sweet ginger ale i can get my hands on and a splash of apple cider vinegar. Let it sit on low heat overnight, then the next day drain/discard the onion/fat and mix the shredded meat with around half a bottle of barbecue sauce. Let it go for another hour or so and then done.
