I'm going to go get a crockpot because I don't have a stove to cook with, so I was wondering some good recipe ideas.

I'm thinking of making some ramen noodles, but I don't know if it'd even be good in a crockpot

You sound like a working class chump. I bet you thought it would be a great "investment", how you would wake up to a warm, healthy breakfast to start off your long day. Maybe, you even had a couple thoughts about all the other nifty little uses you could find for the thing, how it would help you cook healthier meals in general, shed a couple pounds off the old gut, boost your confidence around work and with the ladies. Yeah, maybe that slow cooker would start your life cooking again, wouldn't it? I can see your strained hands holding the box and reading through it carefully at the store. A little bit pricey, but you're the type of guy who thinks everything is more than you can spend, aren't you. And look what happened to you. Look what the slow cooker did to you. Fucked you over, and made you clean it like a useless bitch. You don't even fucking like oatmeal. Piece of shit, you've been repeating those three words your whole life, haven't you. Yeah, how was work after that piece of shit fucked you over? I bet it was on your mind the whole day, you probably didn't say shit to nobody. Can't be telling people about your mistakes. How your little fix yourself plan, failed you. Don't want people to start thinking you're the failure. You're the piece of shit, all along. You don't want that do you? You don't want to be the piece of shit everybody secretly whispers about, do you? Was your father a piece of shit like you? I bet he never had a slow cooker. He had a woman, a house, a damn good job. I bet it's slow cooking you the fuck alive, isn't it. Comparing yourself to him. How one day when all the steam runs our of your life, you'll discover how you're nothing more than burnt shit to be scrapped off and thrown in the trash.

You want to sear it, so something high. 400-450F. Precision doesn't matter as long as it's very hot.

You could also do it in a pan or skillet on the rangetop.

How about red beans and rice and get a rice cooker?

That's probably far too long. Just watch it until it's browned. I'd guess closer to 10 minutes, though it depends on a bunch of variables. It's not like you have to know the exact time in advance.

>>12184945
True. I'll do this. I heard the anchovy paste is a great umami flavor for the pork

>> No.12184955

Chicken broth and one chicken breast, salt and pepper, wait 30-40 mins until broth is warm, add 1/4 ish stick of butter, chop half an onion, 3 cloves garlic, add to melted butter. Wait one hour, chicken is mostly cooked, broth boiling, add noodles as well as broccoli. 10-15 mins later check chicken, if cooked add lots of Parmesan cheese and mozzarella. Lots. Add a little more butter. Add flour if too watery, and heavy cream if you are a try hard. Add more freshly ground black pepper.

Wa la better than any restaurant pasta takes like 2 hours and is really satisfying if you are physically active

this is about the only thing i like out of a slow cooker, do yourself a favor and use the zatarains seasoning mix because it tastes authentic enough and if youre really gonna be autistic enough to try and get everything right youre going to be using a big pot anyways

oil improves browning
leaving the anchoy off the roast when you brown it prevents you from accidentally burning the anchovy. you want to brown the *meat*, not burn some fish paste.

Crockpots are good for soups and slow cooking certain meats but thats about it. Buy those plug in stoves because youre gonna want to sear the meat.

I've made this a few times. Think it would be better with a little sausage or ham, but it's still pretty good:

Slow Cooker Cuban Black Beans
1 lb. Dried Black Beans, Sorted/Rinsed/Soaked
1 White Onion, Diced
1 Green Bell Pepper, Diced
1 Jalapeno, Diced
5 Whole Garlic Cloves
2 Bay Leaves
2 t. Salt
1 t. Cumin
1 ½ t. Dried Oregano
6 C. Water
Juice of 1 Lime

Add all the ingredients except the lime juice to a slow cooker. Cook on high for 4 hours, or low for 8. Remove the bay leaves and garlic cloves from the beans. Stir in the lime juice and serve hot over rice.

2 Large Carrots, Peeled and Diced
3 Large Celery Stalks, Diced
1 Onion, Diced
3 Cloves Garlic, Minced
1 Bay Leaf
1 t. Dried Rosemary*
1 t. Dried Thyme*
1 t. Dried Oregano*
Water as desired
Black Pepper to Taste
1 – 15 oz. Can Diced Tomatoes
5-6 C. Finely Chopped Leafy Greens
Rice or bread for serving (optional)

1. Add all ingredients to the crock pot except the leafy greens.
2. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours, or high for 3-4.
3. Stir in greens just before serving.

* Or substitute with 3 t. Italian Herb seasoning.
** To make from scratch: Sort and rinse 2 lbs of dried great northern or navy beans. Soak them overnight if you can. Add the following to your slow cooker: beans, vegetables, garlic, bay leaf, herbs, and water (10-12 cups) to the crock pot. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or high for 3-4. Remove the lid and add a 28 oz can of diced tomatoes, 2 T. salt, and a generous amount of pepper. Continue cooking for another 1-1 ½ hours, or until the beans are soft. Stir in the greens before serving. Makes a lot of servings (10-12).

Haven't tried this one, but it sounded good. I'd probably change the seasonings some, if I remember right it was made for a family that couldn't handle spicy foods:

Slow Cooker Chili Mac
1 lb. Ground Beef, Browned and Drained
4 Cloves Garlic, Minced
1 Onion, Chopped
28 oz. Diced Tomatoes
2 C. Beef Broth
1 T. Chili Powder
½ t. Cumin
30 oz. Chili Beans
Salt & Pepper to Taste
16oz Macaroni
Shredded Cheese

Add everything except noodles and cheese to the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours. Cook noodles in a separate pan until done. Add a scoop of noodles to your bowl. Top with chili and cheese.

Slow Cooker Creamy Tortellini Soup

2 Large Carrots, Chopped
2 Stalks Celery, Chopped
4 Cloves Garlic, Minced
1 T. Italian Seasoning
2 t. Beef or Chicken Bouillon
½ t. Salt
4 C. Beef or Chicken Broth
¼ C. Cornstarch mixed into ¼ C. Water
3 (12 oz.) Cans Full Fat Evaporated Milk or Half and Half
1 (12 oz.) Pack Cheese Tortellini
5 C. Spinach
1 C. Milk

Place all ingredients through broth into a slow cooker. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours, or low for 7. Uncover and stir in the cornstarch mixture and half and half. Add the tortellini and mix well. Cover again and cook on high for another 45 minutes or until the soup has thickened and the tortellini is cooked through. Add in the spinach, submerging in the broth. Cover and cook for another 5-10 minutes, or until wilted. Pour in the milk in 1/3 C. increments until I reaches your desired thickness. Makes 10 servings.

2/3 C. Monterey Jack Cheese, Shredded

>> No.12185792

Slow Cooker Fudge
3 C. Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
14 oz. Sweetened Condensed Milk
1 t. Vanilla
1 T. Salted Butter
Nonstick Cooking Spray

Spray the inside of your slow cooker generously with nonstick spray. Dump everything into the pot. Cover and cook on high for 1 hour, or low for about 2. Stir every 20-30 minutes. Once liquid and smooth, pour into a lined 9x9 baking pan. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours before slicing.

Notes:
Original recipe was made in a 4 qt. slow cooker. You can make it in a 6 qt, but it'll melt faster so keep an eye on it.
Stir in chopped nuts or crushed candy canes for a variation.

Crock pot is the wrong tool for Ramen. That's like using a screwdriver to saw through wood.

>> No.12186443

Another one I like is
Brown rice
Chicken stock with plenty of soy sauce added
Chicken breast.
Spice with cumin, turmeric, pepper, jalapeño sauce, curry powder
Add chopped up red onion as well as asparagus.

Stir frequently, if you can wait to add the asparagus until late stage, as to not cook it to mush.
