is 30$ per person acceptable at an all you can eat restaurant?

>> No.12157015

It is if people will pay it. Value is determined not only by the goods themselves but what people will pay for those goods. Buffets in Vegas go much higher than $30, for example.

Only if you're eating the tiny itty bitty single-ingredient rolls and those have the widest profit margins.
OP lives in Louisiana. He's going to be eating deep fried, mayo-drizzled rolls as big around as the bottle of bud light he'll be drinking alongside.
I've never gone to a sushi all you can eat buffet and eaten less than $75 worth at regular menu prices. Why even go?

I've paid over 30 for AYCE about ten times. Half of those were churrascarias and were 40-60 depending if I got drinks, desserts, etc. Those were generally worth it. The other half were Vegas buffets. Three of those, and the only one I'd recommend was The Wicked Spoon. I've done AYCE sushi in Vegas too but it was only like 25 bucks at lunch time (Sushi Mon in Henderson). I had like 30 pieces of nigiri so that was worth it.

If you're serving Golden Corral level food at those rates don't expect me to show up.

That's something that will never happen in a buffet. The restaurant already knows how much people can eat and that they could potentially "break even". But they can't allow that, duh, if you were eating the same amount of food in any other restaurant, it would be worth $30 but cost probably a little more. In the buffet, the quality of food is so low that what you perceive as $30+ worth of intake wouldn't sell for $14 anywhere else.

It depends on the restaurant. When the Aladdin hotel in Vegas still existed, I think they charged about $60 per person. The ethnic/regional variety was absolutely nuts at that one and the food was of very high quality. It's more about what you're willing to pay rather than what's acceptable. People don't tend to give a shit in Vegas because they already came there to spend money.

Entirely subject to quality and location.
$30 may be reasonable if you think you're getting somewhat above-average quality stuff to choose from, and the people around you are not the types who are shovelling food into concealed tupperware.

I've never even heard of a mexican buffet. Where the hell are you eating mexican buffets?

I'm in the SE, so we have southern/bbq buffets everywhere that are REALLY good. Maybe they fill that mexican buffet niche for us, since I'm going to assume you're west coast. Soul food is great on a buffet. Who doesn't like fried porkchops? And those run ~$12
