How come more people don't save money by making coffee at home and taking it in a thermos to work?

I got a buddy of mine to do this and it works out he's saving about 1900 bucks a year, by not buying 4 cups of Starbucks a day at work.

You can pick quite nice coffee, and make it at home in a french press and you will still be saving lots of cash

Also I would unironically like to be a garbageman except that I'm not good at driving even with regular cars. Seems comfy since people consider it a dirty job and probably leave you alone, as opposed to other low wage jobs like customer service or sales where people don't consider it dirty and therefore expect you to do all sorts of degrading crap to earn your keep. >drinking coffee

>> No.12141387

I'm 33 and have NEVER bought coffee. I've been given a few giftcards and used those, but I have never actually spent my own earned dollars on coffee. I just don't understand people. At all.

I like instant coffee. As in... I prefer it. I keep some of those Starbucks Via single-servings in my backpack. Shit is dope. Gas stations, universities, offices, just about anywhere... all of them have a coffee machine with a hot water dispenser -- it's usually kept near boiling. I carry a thermos in my backpack. Just tear open a pouch, pour it in, get some hot water, stir, and enjoy.

We live in an time when you can carry in a backpack what would have required a room hundreds of years ago. A gun, thousands of books on a Kindle, a small library of games and movies on a laptop, thousands of hours of music on a smart phone, more data on SD cards, freeze-dried food, instant coffee, flavored drinks (like Propel), thousands of dollars on a plastic card, etc.

People don't understand how good we have it. I'm fortunate enough to come from a generation where I remember not having these things, but also young enough to learn how to use them.

Not that anon but it's usually instant. Plenty of people would prefer to pop out for starbucks etc because any kind of instant latte is terrible.

I've worked in offices that had coffee machines and we made our own lattes and saved a bunch of money.
That said, many of the people popping out for a coffee are really just paying $5 to get out of work for 15 minutes, it's essentially a smoke break for non-smokers (but then the smokers just take twice as many).

>>12140671
>I've literally never even heard of an office not giving you free coffee until seeing this thread
I don't think I'ved worked anywhere that didn't have free coffee, though it wasn't usually anything special. Nescafe instant or something is standard. Only one place ever had a coffee machine with actual beans.

Egg McMuffins are basically the diet food of McDonalds. They taste awesome, can eat while driving, and are (now) available all day long. It's what dieters grab when they have to eat out.

For comparison, the Nutrisystem McMuffins (which are tasty with some salt and pepper) are about half the size and 150 calories/1g sugar. They use turkey instead of ham and some sort of scrambled 'egg product' and the bun is tiny. So the Egg McMuffin doesn't add anything unnecessary like a sugar coating.
