I got paid to go to India for a few weeks and I quite enjoyed the food, but I was staying at 5 star hotels like ITC Grand Chola and the Leela Palace (company policy was to avoid American owned hotels because terrorist targets, lol). Spreads like this, and just the regular restaurants for that matter, were expensive even by American standards, but some of the independent buffets and restaurants I went outside the hotels were expensive to Indians but very reasonable for my expense guidelines. Never tried any street food, why do that when the company paid for me to eat well.
Honestly though, the best culinary experience of the trip was business class emirates round trip. I was drunk off of Manhattans the entire time making OT on a 24 hour trip that company policy says counted as hours worked.

So, go get paid to go to India. I'd honestly vacation in Bangalore if it weren't so far away. Chennai sucked though.
