It's really nice. Like its popular for a good reason, and its a bit weird that the British only managed to spread it as far as Ireland.

I moved manchester recently, sounds like your GF is a pleb. I've spent some time in the US, so I've got a decent idea of good things you can usually find in a foreign foods aisle. Though I'm sure a dedicated store would have a ton more stuff.

Anyway, for candies, Fruit Pastels are an all-time favourite, they're damn good. Sugar coated gummy sweets made with real fruit juice, no artificial flavours.
Jaffa Cakes are good, basically small sponge cakes with a chocolate casing, with an orange jelly center.
McVitie's Chocolate digestives are delicious, so are the fruit shortcakes the same brand makes.
Oh, and Heinz baked beans, because hot damn, American beans are nasty.

Those are some favourites I always grab when staying over in the US anyway.

Stems all the way back to the middle ages. Anglo region never really had much for spices beyond salt, you had to pay out the ass and have it imported in from faraway countries. Even then they operated on a "more = better" line of thinking.
