>Felt cheap and opted for Subway instead of Jersey Mike's
>tfw instantly reminded why I don't eat there anymore
How did Subway get so popular? It's like they intentionally use the lowest quality, most garbage tasting ingredients possible.

>> No.12096744

Subway is expensive and tastes like shit. It was only popular because it branded itself as 'healthy' at a time when people were becoming concerned about their weight.

>not even jared's pedo scandal could kill its popularity
What deal with the devil have they made?

They tricked people into thinking it’s health food.

Jared was ultimately a means to an end, cementing the notion that the food is healthier because it's 'fresher.' Other than that,
>cheap to operate
>can be crammed almost anywhere
>skimps on ingredients
>corporate didn't give much of a shit if franchisees overlapped until recently

they were better 10-15 years ago, but they've never been great. the cookies are the only part I enjoy now.

Sorry, Ronald, I see through your tomfoolery. It is much healthier than other fast food. If you're heavily into McDonald's, you're going to be far less malnourished if you replace it with Subway.

I wouldn't say it's healthy but compared to any other fast food it might as well be a superfood.

Quiznos was the shit! Too bad they had to downsize. I loved them but its not worth driving 3 hours after the location near me shut down.

They basically buy fuck all at cheap and are willing to shove in a shop where others won't.

Seriously, some of the places subways somehow shift themselves into is astounding.

Yeah, I wonder about that. I used to love Subway 15 years ago, but I wonder if that's because I was still in my early 20s and my body could take more abuse from food without noticing how bad it was, or if it's because Subway actually was good in the past.

Also to add to that, I'm OP and when I had that Subway sandwich earlier the cheese was like plastic, the cold cut meat was dry and had bad impossible to chew patches in a few different places, and the bread was this mix of stale and soggy and didn't break down readily the way normal decent quality bread would in your mouth.

They tried to be the first franchise chain, people eat at McDonald's and realize it's shit, too, a business built on the lowest common denominator will never stand against those that specify towards a demand. Subway was established, pretended to be healthy, then pretended to be fresh before riding on the fact that thousands of franchise owners were dependant on a shitty brand. Now they exist because owners neck deep in dept pay for them to exist, and work their friends and family. Subway is supper depressing when you spend more than 5 minutes in a store.

I should elaborate that statement is versus competing sandwich shops, not first franchise in general of course but first specializing in foot long subs.

I can't speak personally since I'm not involved but my best friend's dad co-owns 4 shops and even after having his family work under the table filed for bankruptcy, no doubt in part due to his own bad choices, but they're paying corporate, paying rent for the store, paying for advertisements, and are fucked whenever a deal comes along hitting their bottom line. In most cities subways are at most a few miles apart, so if you own multiple stores at best you compete with yourself, and at worst you compete with another franchise owner hell bent on proving he does it better. Most successful owners own so many stores they can take a hit on bad months, but the few that go their own way are treading water from the start, before being bought up by the guy with 15 stores in the same city

>> No.12097628

subway is garbage that is advertised as healthy because people are dumb enough to believe it. they fucked themselves with the $5 footlong campaign because it isn't sustainable and now nobody wants to pay more than $5 for their garbage.

I don't think it's just you, anon. The one nearest my house when I was a kid always smelled like bread baking, and had soft fluffy loaves. They were more generous with the toppings, and the employees seemed relaxed.

Now if I go into one, the bread is stale, they either slather on sauce or give so little that it's bone dry, and give tiny amounts of toppings for the cost. And that's without the chip bags that are now 1/3 full after being opened.

man, those bathroom keys were so common when I was a kid. they've started to get more common as people go into the bathroom and steal stuff.
