They can't call it a 1/2 pounder because americans would think they were getting ripped off and it's smaller than 1/4 pounder since 2 < 4.

>> No.12088690

But no one calls it a "1/4 pounder" in the first place. Pretty sure Americans know the difference between the words half and quarter.
Or I could be heavily overestimating, not American here.

Nobody has trouble understanding that a half pound is more than a quarter pound. It was only 1/3 pound that people had trouble realizing was more than 1/4 pound for some reason, which was a bit sad.

It was already a thing with a 1/3 pounder.

It's all about mind-fuckery in advertisement.

From a glance, it's more effective see the word "DOUBLE" because it immediately implies that you're getting double of something whereas you see "1/2" and your subconscious associates it with getting less of it.

Nigga. Both patties are a quarter pound. There is two of them. It’s not that hard to figure out why they called it a double quarter pounder.

Question: Why is it that fast food burgers contain so much sodium? Is it because the sodium is used to preserve the meat for distribution? Can I get or make the equivalent burger with less sodium?

But OP is actually correct. There was a whole fiasco with the 1/3rd pounder because the average consumer saw 3 and thought "that's less than 4".

Everyone does in reference to McDonalds. Everwhere else it's just a double burger because it's expected that the patties are 1/4 pound.

>>12088690
>But no one calls it a "1/4 pounder" in the first place.
Yes, they do. "Gimme a quarter pounder" is a very common line when ordering at McD's. And it's not just them, plenty of other places advertise "1/4" or "quarter pound" burgers.

>>12088708
>>From a glance, it's more effective see the word "DOUBLE" because it immediately implies that you're getting double of something
Yep, that's it.

And there's also the fact that a double-quarter-pound burger has twice the surface area for grilling compared to a half-pound burger even though they both have the same total weight, and thus will taste different. I can see people preferring one over the other. Personally, if I have nice meat I prefer to make 1/2 lb patties, but if the meat isn't top-notch then I go with multiple thin patties instead.

Flavor. Fast food uses really crappy meat which doesn't taste of much on its own, they rely heavily on seasoning to make it taste better.

Also, the heavy seasoning makes their product taste consistent. Consistency is one of, if not THE singular most important goal of a fast-food franchise. They want the burger you get in Pitscatiway, NJ to taste exactly the same as the one you got in Hearne, TX. That's hard to do with natural ingredients since flavors vary, but it's easy to do with refined seasonings.

The only way Disney managed to make the switch up to 1/3lb patties was to basically do it universally across the parks at the exact same time they phased out their 1/4lb burgers. There is no confusion if there is no comparison.
