personally I watched a couple of his videos long before I saw any threads on 4chan about him
i found his approach a bit cringey - he doesn't really do anything traditionally (which i prefer in a cooking channel to help develop my technique rather than just watch food porn)
i also really wasn't into the meme food he was doing from tv shows

Pretty much
He used to make real dishes (and some of them really well) from movies/series/cartoons. But instead of transitioning to either more complex stuff or changing direction (eg. 10 minute videos for some classic dishes from different cuisines) , he restricts himself on the genre. The product is those bs "recipes" from the likes of bobs burgers, spongebob and brooklyn nine nine. The occasional Basics episode are usually fine, but I've been watching every 5th or so video of his.

He doesn’t really do that good a job of instructions and directions with his recipes, even his more practical recipes. He doesn’t give a whole lotta tips or explain WHY you need to do this or that or why you need to do things a certain way, which instructional cooking shows should be.
His entire appeal is lowest common demonimator, which is a real disappointment because his show had a ton of potential for the opportunity to crossover /ck/ with /tv/.

And do I need to bring up his grilling episode and how that entire episode was a cringey fucking ad for the grill he was using?
Or his Quiet Place episode and how the first several minutes of it was a goddamn commercial for headphones?
