I didn't even know they had a sherry release, I'll keep an eye out. Peated whiskey has nothing to do with the barrel. The peat smoke is used on the grains prior to distillation.
To be fair though, a "peat barrel" can refer to a barrel that previously held peated whiskey.
http://whiskyadvocate.com/berkshire-bourbon-smoke-peat-islay-influenced-american-whiskey/
>Smoke and Peat is made by finishing fully mature 4 year old Berkshire Bourbon (72% corn, 18% rye, 10% barley) in Islay single malt casks for 3 to 8 months. The whisky is an unusual crossover, a fusion of sweet, spicy bourbon and the flavors of smoky, peaty scotch.

Scotch whisky is defined by peated malt (to varying degrees) and Irish whiskey does not have smoke or peat flavours.
The idea that you would mature Irish whiskey in charred barrels for a smoky finish is moving it into Scotch territory.

You're an even dumber cunt for trying to defend your stupid opinion. Scotch whisky and Irish whisky are defined only be the countries they come from, not any specificity of flavor.

Scotch whisky is defined literally as a whisky made in Scotland. It doesn't even have to be from malt. And there are Irish whiskies that have peat. You dumb little faggot. Just turn 21 and you think buying a bottle of Islay whisky makes you a connoisseur?

Also, a new charred barrel doesn't imply any flavor of smoke. Bourbon and rye rarely have any smoky flavors and they're aged entirely in new charred oak.

I sincerely feel bad for you all; your taste in whiskey is so fucking bad. You haven’t even begun to discover the complex flavor profiles offered by willett or rittenhouse. These aren’t even expensive or hard to find distilleries yet you peasants still default to bulleit, larceny, wild turkey, and irrelevant scotches that spend more money on their retail boxes than they do on their product. Anon is retarded so I made sure to pick a bottle with a giant "100% RYE" label such that even she couldn't miss it.

we are trying to move away from the stereotype that whiskey drinkers are fags, you're not helping

Also, I've had willet before wasn't bad but my first choice is always a scotch like Ardbeg or Laphroaig.

Whats a good scotch that tastes like butterscotch? Looking to buy something tonight with that kind of flavor profile.

Not neccesarily smokey but more peat. Im just getting more into scotch crossing over as a primarily rye drinker and bourbon. The only scotches ive had were johnnie walker and glenfiddich. Really loved the former but wanna step it up

Lagavulin is definitely better than Laphroaig, but it's quite a bit more expensive and they're different and both worth trying. Personally I like the Laphroaig 10 better than the quarter cask, though.

Some guy brought that to a party and we all tried it. Maybe it's just me but it was just pretty decent. The flavours just didn't seem that good compared to other sherry whiskies. Any other Macallans to try that might be better?

>just pretty decent
I'm >>12069460 and I agree with you. I recommend it to newbies because it doesn't have anything remotely resembling an off-flavor (unless it's sulfured) or a burn.
If you're looking for flavortown, A'bunadh is what you want.
