In high school I went on a tour in Italy and we had to buy our own lunches. When we were in Naples our only option for food was wood-oven pizza with a side of microwave french fries, and the fries were actually better. I don't know if it's because the place had to serve about 20 at once but the crust was impossible to bite. It was tough like jerky and the provided butter "knives" were no help. Worst meal I ever paid for and I remember it being stupidly priced for how inedible it was.

When I was like 12, I remember going to Mellow Mushroom for the first time I’d ever gone with my family. We got a pepperoni meatball pizza and I’m not even totally sure what the fuck they did but it was the most disgusting shit pizza I’ve ever had. Mid City Pizza in New Orleans. My wife and I went there because we had just gotten to town after a long drive and didn't want to have to go far from where we were staying, plus it was reviewed well on google.

The dough was undercooked, and relatively flavorless. The sauce inly vaguely tasted of tomato, that's it, and I don't even remember what toppings we got because I don't remember those havign much flavor either. Even though we were both hungry from skipping lunch on our drive in, we barely ate a couple pieces of the pizza we ordered. I had Chicago deep dish pizza and I was disappointed.

Chicagofag here, it really depends where you get it from, sauce is everything too. I generally like Lou Malnati's even though it's a fairly mainstream chain restaurant as far as I know. They don't go too overboard on the cheese, you can actually taste the sauce, the toppings are kind of weird though. With their sausage deep dish pizza and their pepperoni pizza they put what I think is a circular sheet of sausage or pepperoni between the sauce and the cheese, other places do this too but sometimes the taste of sausage gets overbearing with every single bite.
