Anyone else quit eating pigs after finding about how intelligent they are?
I just can't eat an animal that passes the mirror test, remembers familial relations, performs exceedingly well at logic tasks, cares about hygiene and will literally dig latrines in the wild to shit in etc.

Meanwhile a dog fails the mirror test, commits incest readily, will eat its own shit, and is less intelligent than pigs, but people cry when they are eaten for dinner

I'm not advocate for veganism here, go ahead and eat dumbass animals like fish and chickens, i'm just saying pigs are too fuckin intelligent to eat

This is the crux of the problem; any argument advocating eating pork can just as easily be subverted to promote consumption of dog-flesh. It depends on what your point is.

Are you saying that it doesn't make sense to eat dogs because they are uneconomical to raise for meat and they also don't make very good meat? That's perfectly reasonable. Or are you saying that it doesn't make sense to eat dogs because it's somehow "wrong" on a moral level, while eating pigs is OK? That makes no sense at all.

We do make some fantastic cheeses here, but the sad fact is that for every pound of, say, Cato Corner Hooligan there is a million pounds of generic industrial cheddar. Is it "wholesome"? Sure. It's real cheese and it won't make you sick. Does it taste good? Not really. Eating that in today's global market is sort of like being happy with an Atari emulator when PS4s exist. >but one has to admit our hunger for meat is environmentally destructive and unsustainable

I agree that the modern western diet is 100% unustainable. The thing is that we don't have to go to a no-meat diet to solve that problem. A low-meat diet not only suffices, but actually works better. The type of farming which causes the least enviornmental harm is small-scale, local, farms which raise mostly crops but a small amount of meat as well. The ratio is important because that way you feed the animals with the leftovers from the crops which humans cannot eat, meanwhile the animal's waste is used for fertilizer. If you break that ratio and you have too much meat (as we do today), or if you nave not enough meat (as the vegans propose) you are forced to rely on outside sources for feed, fertilizer, etc. If you keep the ratio in favor of crops but still including a little meat you can avoid needing any sort of external industry (feed, fertilizer, etc.) to support food production. That's also better for your health since a small amount of meat in your diet fixes the various health concerns a vegan diet has.

We do.

For example, for the vast majority of human history dogs were working animals. We bred them to help us hunt, to herd domestic animals, to protect our livestock from predators, as guards, to pull sleds, track, etc. The idea of a dog as a "pet" is a relatively modern invention. A few hundred years ago the only people who had pet dogs were royalty. Now, the overwhelming majority of dogs are bred to be pets and there are relatively few "working dogs" anymore.

Same with horses. They were once a source of power for transportation & plowing a farmer's field. Nowadays we mainly use them for recreational purposes.

You vegetarians and vegans don't know just how good you have it. In a survival situation, you'd be tearing apart whatever animal posses edible meat. You'll even fight for it. dogs were selectively bred to be companion animals, pigs were selectively bred to be the most delicious, easy to kill meat. the argument is similar to hurting a friend vs. hurting a stranger.
