Something I read said switchel was better than water. The sugar is supposed to restore some energy and the ginger helps if the heat makes you feel a lottle nauseous.

ok. If you put a little bit of salt in it you will increase your uptake slightly. Put too much salt in it and it will have the opposite effect, though.

Bananas have like 80ml of water, which is nothing. you lose much, much more water than you do potassium/sodium through sweat. Electrolytes should be replenished, but water is by far the more immediate issue if you've been sweating hard. Most electrolytes are consumed through a regular diet anyways

i doubt most people on this board have ever exercised to the point that glucose and electrolytes would be necessary, but yes OP, if you run a marathon then sugar will replenish glycogen in your muscles and electrolytes will need to be replaced, making something like gatorade actually more optimal than water. but it is unlikely you'll get to that point

I read somewhere that drinking 1 glass of water + consuming a fruit or veg that is mostly water (watermellon, celery, etc) is somehow more effective than drinking 2 glasses of water. But idk. Might have been facebook science.

Just drink water, you simpleton.
As a US Army Ranger from the 3/75th, we would do a 25 mile forced march. The battalion surgeon advised us to only drink water before, during and after. But if we had to have gatorade, we were to fill half a canteen with it and the other half water - and only consume it after we were finished. Your body doesn't really need those added electrolytes if you're already eating a healthy diet.
But if you feel like you have to have it, go ahead. It's not going to harm you.

Mineral water, the real shit not club soda.

Gerolsteiner is my absolute favorite and I run through about 15 liters a week. Think carbonated water with electrolytes and a decent amount of calcium
