Meat eaters: would you raise a piglet from a baby to an adult (1-3 years) and then eat it? Why or why not? Look at this picture while your thinking.

>> No.12014947

Yes.
We did this with two pigs, my dad named them after his best friends.
When the time came, he had them both over and asked them which one had to die first.
One of his buddies chimed in, "Shoot me, make him watch."

no because I hate pets and I'm not particularly fond of any kind of pig meat

Hell yes, those fuckers ate better than I did sometimes.

>> No.12014960

Of course, I'd feel better about my meat knowing it was raised in sanitary and humane conditions. If it was feasible I would source all my food from home like this.

It depends, are you raising the pig as if it were a member of your family (pet) or are you raising it as if it were future food (domesticated animal)? I wouldn't slaughter a pet and eat it unless it was under really dire circumstances.

>> No.12014965

>>12014941
I would raise it until it either became too much to take care of or died of natural causes. In either case, I'd probably eat it.

Is there a difference, if it's a pig?

>> No.12014970

I could literally and unironically watch a cow get raised, slaughtered and then fried on a grill and not care

>Is there a difference, if it's a dog?

Emotional attachment is what matters in the decision. If you're raising it as future food, you're viewing it differently and treating it differently. That's psychology.

>>12014970
I'd be more upset that you were okay with someone using a grill to fry something.

Yknow sociopathy doesn't just apply to human relationships, right? Jeffrey Dahmer tortured neighborhood pets. That's who you sound like.

I have a policy of not eating mammals. Most people think it's retarded to choose what to eat or not based on their scientific class but it's quite simple.
Most animals which are capable of showing love and being possible pets are mammals. Cows and pigs are like big dogs, even small rodents can show affection.
Can you say the same for birds? They kill their young children by pecking them in their heads and eating their brains.

>> No.12015011

>>12014941
yes

>> No.12015020

>>12014981
That's where the breakdown occurs: Dahmer mistreated animals, and then went on to torture humans; whereas high-end charcuterie operators who raise their own pigs are very particular about avoiding stressing their animals, even ahead of slaughter. Happy, low-stress animals are among the highest quality protein biomass one can hope to enjoy.

>> No.12015024

>>12015006
Also to add on this, insects and certain marine life to an extent cannot experience suffering. They can experience the pain signal, but their brains are not advanced enough to experience emotion called "suffering". Their response to pain is purely instinctual, not emotional. Hence it is ethical to eat seafood or insects even if you don't want animals to suffer. Birds are advanced enough to experience suffering, so they're kinda in the grey zone. Eggs are totally fine though.
Remember, cows are your friends, just like dogs are. They love you and we want to live in harmony with humans

I don't think so

I don't think it's economical when you factor in labor and cost of feed, along with potential medical upkeep to raise a single pig for food

I also rent an apartment.

No, this won't work for me at all

Already did, also with two goats and a small herd of chickens when I was a kid. Sure playing them and walking the goats were fun, but I had no problems with them being slaughtered and prepped when the time arrived

You could raise a pig in an apartment if you set your mind to it. Pennies for feed, dollars for pork in a couple years. You could even sell it to your local Jew York butcher.
