In my neighborhood of Astoria queens there is a sandwich shop named Sal, Kris, & Charlie's Deli where for $10 you can get a 14 inch Italian sub named "The Bomb" with every deli meat ever made on it.

I love everything on this sandwich except the soft yellow slices on the bottom and the bread choice.

>>11986340
Go suck ass somewhere else. Iceberg lettuce holds up extremely well despite acidity and is perfect for holding some seasoning between the layers of a large sandwich. Just don't let the fucker sit around for hours otherwise it will lose it's crunch. Even then the texture isn't go to be any more than spinach or something.

Why is Astoria so expensive? A 1 bedroom is practically Morningside Heights money and for what? Jet engine noises? Greasy wops? An above ground subway?

There isn't even a single Asian grocery store, you have to go to Woodside which requires a transfer at Queensboro Plaza or getting into a cage.

Yeah I was talking more purchase price. I don't understand who would pay $500k for a 1 bedroom in a culture desert. It's wh*teoid land, and not even the good kind (Jews). For instance there's no classical music scene to speak of, there's nowhere to buy normal vegetables and mushrooms, or a decent selection of rice, or soy sauce other than Kikkoman.

I don't live in Astoria but I live in a 1914 building. It's not fun unless it's a high end coop building and if it's that, the maintenance is going to be astronomical because surprise surprise, it costs a fortune to maintain building technology that was developed 100 years ago

Most of the radiators in NYC were rebuilt during the Spanish Flu of 1918, the conventional wisdom at the time was that leaving the windows wide open in the depths of winter was the only way to survive if you got the flu. So all residential buildings were required to have radiators that could keep you from freezing to death in January when you had all the windows to your apartment completely open all night long. Precise control was not a concern. You can retrofit with these special devices that are pretty much only sold in NYC but they're still not all that effective so you basically have to choose between freezing or baking to death, and women being women, the building always opts for baking to death.
