Your totally right, I raise a family on a food budget of 300 dollar a month. And we eat healthy and often have luxery food items.

I'm sure I'm even able to stretch it further if needed to.

I think that people complain about food prices because
- they are into food fads muh advocado
- want to have everything organic
- find cheap food (potatoes, chicken ) boring
- cannot cook from scratch

Eggs are extremely overpriced. My eggs would be $0.89 and my milk would be $1.68. Why the hell is that fat-free milk? you're literally buying water over milk when you do that. Fat is good.
You could buy carrots, celery, onions, garlic, etc. in much greater quantities and for less price than all of that broccoli. Broccoli is entirely one-dimensional in taste and you're spending over $4 just for broccoli. Go for more taste(and more nutrition) for less. You can even save the trimmings you'd otherwise throw away from the carrots, celery, onions, etc. to make broth.

Drop that meme Peanut Butter. Please.
$4.00 of oil, salt, pepper, vinegar, flour (all purchased over the course of weeks) and you can make your own mayo, something to fry your eggs in, noodles, gravy, and so on. All your food would taste so much better and have so much more variety. One cheap bag of potato or rice, along with the flour, and you'd have way more calories for the $.

Shopping for chicken quarters on sale they can be as low as $0.79 per lb. which is great to break down into soup stock and soups and such. Pork can be had for around $2.00 a lb. and you can be making some ground pork.
Consider, with the savings and changes I've suggested, you start purchasing delicious dairy fat items like butter, cream, yogurt, cheese, etc. you'll have all that you need to eat a hearty breakfast like pork sausage with biscuits and pork sausage gravy.

Dairy depends on location and varies due to local laws that restrict competition. There are places in the US that provide milk at less than $2 a gallon, and other places that haven't seen prices below $4 in decades (Like SoCal), and up in Canada it gets absolutely insane.

Beef prices went up back during the Mad Cow scare due to a "shortage", and then it had another "shortage" later. Subsidies that benefited beef production went into effect. This allowed beef producers to expand into foreign markets as they could now produce cheap enough to undercut local competitors in foreign markets. Meanwhile, they noticed beef was selling about as well as it was before the price increase due to the "shortage", so they barely lowered prices in the USA and enjoyed the larger profits.

You simply can't get beef at low price easily now. I stalk beef prices like a hungry lion, hoping to get my chance at a sale, clearance, or some other price fall.

I don't ever eat out and my food budget is pretty high, not counting alcohol or wine.
If you don't mind eating a shit ton of grain filler food like a human horse, you can eat much cheaper, but I don't eat potatoes, rice, tortillas, bread, oatmeal, pasta, etc. It's pointless cheap matter to provide expendable calories for hard labor, which is a matter frankly beneath me.
30% of the calories in OP's picture (~4.5k out of ~14.5k) are in that can of oats, which is less than 9% of the budget.
Swap lowly chicken for something exciting once in a while and you'll see this tiny expenditure double. Add dairy like butter or cheese, add coffee or tea, and "add some fish" and you're adding another 50% to budget. What about cooking oil and spices, salt, garlic?

Healthy isn't synonymous with asceticism and purposely misrepresenting your spending isn't helping your case. Stop making this thread faggot.

This desu. Most expensive 'food' most people don't realise is all the takeout and pizzas they order too.
It doesn't take a genius to cook, its literally follow the list if instructions and you cannot go wrong.

I live in Japan and sadly milk is expensive as hell though. I never order fast food and eating out is cheap as hell so its cool for me.

I do ~$30 USD a week and my list is much closer to yours than OP. No honey, no broccoli, no corn crisps, no cookies, no beer, I don't get a 63¢/lb. of onions twice, I get more meat*, 8¢ a cup coffee, $1.89 morsels to bake my own cookies, 89¢ celery and carrots, $3.00 cheese, 85¢ loaf of bread, $2.68/lb. butter, $2 bags of potatoes or rice lasting longer than a week, and some 50¢ canned tomato stuff, 60¢ beans, etc. like the OP has to be combined into different dishes.

*Meat feels like my biggest expense next to my cheese. I eat ~1.5 lbs. of $2.19/lb. ground hamburger a week in addition to the cheaper chicken and pork ranging from $0.68/lb. to $2.00/lb. The cheese is without question my big luxury item.

My prices are much better than OP in all categories other than the canned goods, oranges, and oats, which are the same price. Cheaper meat prices shown earlier, I have my $1.64/gal fortified A&D whole milk, two per week as I love the stuff, and 7.5¢ eggs. I usually get the 30¢ per lb. bananas over the oranges. I don't eat a whole can of oats a week. The flour, spices, small bits of baking stuff, sugar and oil are all so low cost they just get absorbed in that $30 over multiple weeks. I mean flour is ~24¢/lb. oil is ~4¢ an ounce, and sugar is ~45¢/lb. or 65¢/lb. for brown.

Pic of my precious doggo. He thinks my food is the best.

I live in Los Angeles and I can get a gallon of 2% for about 3 bucks at Ralphs.

True about the beef though, holy shit. Ground beef goes on sale maybe once every 3 months and it's at most a markdown from $4/lb to $3/lb. Meanwhile chicken regularly gets down to as low as 88 cents a pound. Fuck the beef industry.

>Fuck the beef industry
Big Agribusiness is one of the best examples of the practice of valuing profit over everything else can become truly evil.

It actually gets worse, as you follow this story about beef prices. As our trade war has escalated as protective measure for US citizens, the retaliatory tariffs put US Beef prices over the foreign local producers again. A surplus of beef starts rotting, expensively, in their big freezers.

What do they do? Do they sell that beef locally within the USA? No. That would raise supply and destroy the inflated beef price point within the USA. They want to maintain their artificially high prices. Instead, they launch a massive lobbying campaign at congress to counter the tariffs; at the at the cost of the security of the nation. Meanwhile, that surplus beef rotted and was thrown away.

Selfish fucking pricks. Words cannot express my disgust.

Wouldn't it be more prudent after a certain point to just sell the surplus meat if they can't get the tariffs revoked? Or is the profit from the inflated price point that much more than the losses incurred from letting the product rot?
