The way the pizza is cut, and haphazardly thrown around while still hot causes it to shift and compress slices as the momentum of the pizza causes them to collide. They also serve single slices of pizza so likely are rotating fresh slices out to be ready to serve without making a new pizza (reduces waste serving the singles before they're not as fresh).

I wouldn't be surprised if some general manager somewhere is recycling waste pizza, but most people screeching that their pizza looks weird are simply misled by the "made fresh in store" claim, yes, it was made fresh, but 30 minutes ago because some kid only wanted 2 slices of pepperoni pizza.
