my first attempt at english muffins and first time cooking anything with leavened dough that's not pizza
they kind of look like dog shit but the one i ate tasted great
definitely worth thawing out some breakfast sausage and making my own mcmuffin later

Slice one so we can see if it has that distinctive english muffin crumb.

Thing is, they super don't. At all. I'd eat that shit in a heartbeart, man.

Looks good op. I make English muffins at my job for brunch Benedict's, and yours look similar to mine, a professional. Maybe make yours a bit smaller, as they'll rise when you brown the outsides...

Don't slice it. Pry it apart using a fork. Slicing English muffins is a sin.

was thinking of doing english muffins too, where'd you get the muffin rings from?

You can make a really good five minute breakfast with those, some eggs, and a slice or two of bacon.
Heat up a pan or skillet, put the bacon in, while that's heating up, split the English muffins, and stick them in the oven, while that's going on split the eggs and mix them in some bowl, 2 is best but 3 works, then when the bacon is done pull that out and put that to the side then pour the eggs in so they cook in the bacon grease. By that time the muffins should be about ready, pull them out of the oven and put the bacon on top, if want to melt some cheese do that while they're in the oven, then put the bacon on the muffins.
By this time the eggs should be ready, fold those buggers up, put them on the muffins and you have a nice tasty breakfast. Cleanup time is next to nothing for that.
It takes all of 5 minutes and is a good, tasty breakfast.

That's putting the fast in breakfast!

They manufacture 'fork' muffins for knifelets who can't cut straight. If you bake your own they won't have a seam to jab your fork into.

That's how you're supposed to do it. Like a scone. Or just use a knife. Fuck forks.

I thought the charm of english muffins was the nooks and crannies in the crumb. Otherwise it's just a fluffy bread roll like yours. Sad!

I have to agree. Its a big disappointment, but it was a first attempt and at least s/he tried. Lets just call it "needs improvement".
I get six of these for 99 cents and the texture is absolutely fucking perfect. No way in hell I'm spending all that time to half-ass attempt and fail to replicate what costs a dollar. I guess OP was really bored and grasping at some purpose in life, I respect your efforts in an unmeaningful way.

he just didn't let them rise or his yeast was dead,

OP needs to get new yeast packets and then spoon out the size and let them sit there for a bit so they develop the bubbles inside then put on the really hot cast iron pan or griddle with some ghee, real easy like then cook them off a couple minutes perside …

or he could try a leavening agent , either baking soda or baking powder , but if baking powder use 1/2 less regular salt as there is salt in the baking powder
