Anyone here ever been to any Michelin-star restaurant? Is it worth the money or is it just for rich people to show off

Nah, they're worth it. Rich people generally have pretty shit taste but go to "luxury" places that serve mediocre food that hasn't been updated since the 80's but charges 5X more to keep poor people out. Rich people don't actually care about the product when they want to show off; it's just about how much money they are spending that's important.

I've been to several 3-star restaurants, a couple of 2-stars and more 1-stars than I can recount.

I never understood why a tire company is considered the ultimate authority on fine dining.

>> No.11941553

>>11941540
It started as a scam to get people to travel to eat at these exclusive restaurants and thus wear out their tires faster. Now it's just a scam to get restaurant owners to pay for status to draw more customers. Warning: anons will hate on this post because they're cucked and stupid, but don't be an NPC

call me trailer trash if you want, but I always prefer a nice juicy and greasy burger to the tiny plates in those fancy michelin starred restaurants, I've been to cafe boulud, Jean georges, per se, daniel, the modern, brooklyn fair and nomad. for reference. Those are the places I've been to in my last visit to NYC.

I've been to a few three stars, a few two stars, and a few one stars. I got into it because I used to watch Iron Chef all the time, and wanted to try fine dining at least once. But once I did, I got hooked.

All in all, >>11941553 this dude is right. In my experience, a lot of restaurants aren't worth the money you pay. A Michelin star experience has lost a lot of the luster it used to carry, and they're kind of throwing them around in an effort to keep the brand relevant.

There are some restaurants out there that are, though, worth the trip and the money. When you eat there, it is truly a special experience, and the food is on a level where, when you leave, you can't stop thinking about it. And the staff is friendly and engaged, and loves the food just as much as you do, and is excited to see you enjoy it as well, much like the best restaurants at any price.

This is a picture of the best soup I've ever had in my life. I think about it every time I have soup. And it came from one of the best restaurants I've ever been to, Manresa, which was truly an experience worth the money.

If you're going to go to one, don't go for a romantic date. Go with friends, get a table for four. Check for a dress code and dress nice, because the staff will recognize that this is special for you and you're not one of the rich dicks that they have to tend to all of the time, and they'll treat you well. You don't need a wine pairing course, get a cocktail or two instead. And remember, have fun.

Fine dining is for the experience, not the meal.

People don't go there to have a tasty supper, people go because they're a "foody" or whatever. If you treat it as entertainment it can be worth the price. If you treat it as sustenance its a massive rip off. I compare it to getting first row seats to a concert or sporting event.

Sorry, but I'm not going to a fancy restaurant to get soup for 5x the price that doesn't even fill half of a bowl.

That's not the entire meal, and you don't pay for courses individually. So your comment makes no sense.

Best is to go the ones in Hong Kong and Singapore because they’re just normal priced food.
They were pretty good.

just because you have a michelin star doesn't mean you can't serve up some food poisoning!
