Was low on ingredients but I live on a farm and had some stuff we put in storage for the winter. Made a veggie stock, cooked some potatoes and carrots and egg noodles, put some pepper in it. Poor people food I guess. at least the stock was tasty.

I made some slow cooker chicken stew. Used chicken thighs and left the bone in thinking it would be better for the broth. Didn't make a difference and the bones are annoying. Still pretty tasty. My second time making a blonde roux to thicken the soup. Other than that I just went scarborough fair on it (parsley sage rosemary and thyme), cream of chicken and a few cups of broth.

Here's how I did it: julienne three carrots and sprinkle them with salt. Let them soak for fifteen minutes and then rinse/dry off a bit. Take five tablespoons of sugar and mix with a half cup of warm water to dissolve the sugar. Then mix with one cup of water and five tablespoons of distilled white vinegar. Put the carrots in a container and fill the liquid up over them. They should be ready to eat after a day but will taste better after three days. Discard when carrots start getting mushy.

I actually just got laid off at the end of January, but I had some money saved so I'm just taking time off away from people for a little while. It means I've had time off extra time to cook, so I've been doing that a lot. I find great joy in the simple things, like dicing onions and garlic, or juilienning carrots, which took me about an hour just because I enjoyed the repetition.

We had an over abundance of tomatoes last season that weren't selling and would rot if not put to some kind of use. So we decided whoever was on lunch duty for the day would just make tomato sauces and paste instead of farm work until lunch. Most of the people didn't even bother blanching and peeling them first but I did.

Great fucking feeling going to the garden, grabbing fresh tomatoes of different varieties, turning them into a sauce, getting herbs, onions and garlic from the garden and making spaghetti sauce all just from that.

Also the forest on our property has tons of things like Stinging Nettles and we also grow a flower here called borage, both make for delicious teas. We would make all kinds of tea blends.

Do something like Whoof, HelpX or Work Away. It can be hard work but you get to do all this kind of stuff and meet people. Preferably unrionically try to stick to places where weed is legal and you'll be around more organic farmers who like doing fun /ck/ stuff like that. Hippies can be insufferable but it's cozy as long as you don't reveal your power level.
