Hey guys, my dad recently got hit by a car and died, and since I am a NEET, I no longer have money to eat freely like I used to.

What dishes can I make that use relatively cheap ingredients?

Sorry about your dad man.

Bulk stuff like rice, beans and pasta are cheap. Best real advice I have is to google it. There are tons of frugal eating blogs and I do that's going to be better than what you can get here. Good luck.

pinto beans are like a dollar/lb. wash and soak a couple pounds overnight. pick out the floaters or deformed bits. drain. cube up a slab of salt pork. maybe an onion or two. garlic. throw it all in a cast iron pot and fill with water. put it in the oven for 12 hours. tada. beans for a week at least.

rice is also inexpensive. pour 1 cup into a handheld strainer. run cold water over it, shake and stir to wash it. let it drip dry while you get a buttered simmering pan (w/ lid) heated up. pour the rice in and stir it in the melted butter. let it heat. pour in a can of chicken stock (should be ~2 cups, double the volume of rice). heat liquid and stir on max heat for a couple minutes, lower heat to 2 (or low) and cover. let cook another 8-9 minutes. rice for 2-3 days.

rice and beans are a complete protein. add shit like serrano peppers, onions, bell peppers, carrots, et cetera for additional nutrients. apples and oranges are pretty cheap. get some chicken breasts and learn to slice them in half lengthwise, salt and sear on a cast iron pan like a steak.

trust, you'll look and feel a lot better home made food than eating drive through.

oh and broccoli is dead fuckin simple. buy a large freezer bag for cheap. get one of those steamer-strainer stand thingies that goes in a stainless pot. pour in salt and water. boil the water and cover until the vegetables are soft enough to eat. literally too easy. sorry about your dad anon.

are you down to eat your father's flesh? You could grind it up and add some onions, seasonings, and breadcrumbs to make nuggets

Steamed broccoli and salt is surprisingly edible paired with something meaty and some healthy carbs
Far better than the bland shit you'll get in a restaurant ordering steamed veggies
