I drove delivery for a local town 'house of pizza'. I now tip $4 because I know it's the first round number that's satisfactory

Please cut out the "I did X so people should treat people who do X well" bullshit. It's fine that you feel empathy with people who did a similar job to what you did, but don't pretend that there is some "satisfactory" tip that is way beyond what the average person pays.

>Do you tip when you order takeout?
If it was extremely large and complicated, and they checked it all in front of me, with a smile, and maybe fixed me a soda while they did that.
If they did some extras for me, like a couple sides extra of the secret sauce or pricier condiments with zero upcharge, then their reward is a couple bucks in the jar.
If they offered to help me take it to my car trunk so I don't do two trips or have to juggle anything, or asked if I needed extras like plates, napkins or something i might have forgot but appreciated? They get a tip.

If it's a perfunctory gesture to ring me up and get back to their other paying customers who are more likely to tip, any kind of lack of ownership in providing me with a service, then nah, I just say thank you and probably never go back. If I know I want to come back and be treated very well, there's an attempt by me to be known as the customer to wait upon and treat right, and I'll tip well, or ingratiate myself in some other way like personal compliment or appreciative chatter or something. Just asking staffers what they like to order can make you memorable when you do what they suggest.

>> No.11913311

Usually not, since takeout doesn't generally involve much in the way of service.

That being said there are a few takeout places I order from regularly that I ALWAYS tip, and fairly generously. The most notable being a stripmall Chinese place right next to my work . . . . their food is fantastic, a family run joint. They're happy to make me the "real stuff" like sauteed eggplant and 3 cup chicken. And they make their steamed and fried dumplings from scratch (so damned good!)

By tossing in an extra 2-3$ every I'm just letting them know that I appreciate them! And in return they treat me like royalty every time I come in.

well when the average low-tipper ($1-2) was black or white trash, and the average high-tipper ($3-6) was a clearly well-to-do respectable job type, you tend to get a feel for what is "satisfactory"

In NA they are fine with tips, ofc

I'm from NA and I will tip delivery and dine-in service, but fuck tipping

>> No.11913677

I only tip at sit down restaurants where I have a waitress bring me my food.

>> No.11914175

I tip everytime pretty much no matter the situation. Working in food service even a couple bucks is great. I bless anyone who tips, especially on a takeout order. I curse anyone who doesn't tip.

No we don't tip because they get paid a normal living wage as written by the law.
