It's all it was good for...upping the proof of something that was heavily thinned out in proof thanks to being frozen or filled with a good quantity of delicious fruit juices. Despite it's goodness in cocktails making them standard drinks in proof, I think it was most popular in places with high alcohol tariffs, like bermuda, or say iceland...where a shot of alcohol needs to have maximum impact in order to save money.
