What foods remind you of your mother?
For me it's chicken and egg noodles it wasn't even her best meal and its probably considered midwestern garbage but it just reminds me of comfier times at home.

She would make the meanest, tastiest rabbit stew in the winter. Recipe left with her, I miss her and it but what can you do.

Tortellini in Rose Sauce.
My Mother used to buy just bags and bags of cheese and beef Tortellini and make it for me all the damn time and I'd just keep eating it. Have it with a mason jar of chocolate milk and I was in absolute heaven.

I'm, like, 27 years old now though and have since remade it and have come to the startling realization that her Rose Sauce in retrospect was totally and utterly bland and unappetizing.... But I love her all the same for making me it again and again despite her complete inability to do so.

The meal that I always looked forward to from my mom was meatloaf. It wasn't a generic midwestern meatloaf type deal either. It was a recipe that my god father (Italian born american who served in the merchant marines during WW2 as the cook on a Liberty ship and ate and cooked food the world over) gave her. Since I got interested in cooking as an adult I asked her about it. She had forgotten it and my chef godfather is dead. Fuck. I remember as a pretty young kid helping go through his things after he passed and this was in the 90's. What's an old Italian man doing with bamboo steamer baskets, why does he have so many sets of fine chopsticks and chopstick holders, why are there 9 escargot dishes, giant pots, pans, cast iron from before I was born, what's with the 150 knives. As an adult I would have fucking taken it all.

Chili with celery and beans in it. My mom sucked at cooking and this was the only dish that was mildly edible.

Sorry anon, didn't mean to put you off. It is very tasty though. On the off chance that you ever go to a West African restaurant, I recommend to give it a try.

My mom was rarely around, but I guess chicken and egg korma. Only things she ever taught me to cook and I remember her trying to feed me it when I was like 8 in some weird attempt to make up for lost time.

My mum died when I was 5, but I have this powerful memory of having grilled cheese on toast, cottage pie, slow-roasted mustard lamb chops and mandarin juice.

I like to make one of them every so often to feel a little wave of nostalgia and motherly affection.
