Is New York pizza really that good?

The thing to understand about New York pizza is that it's not that it's THAT much better than pizza you can get elsewhere.

What makes it so good is slice shops — you're out for drinks with friends, you get hungry on your way to the subway, you just walk in and grab a hot slice of pizza for $2-3, and it's great. It's great any place you get it from. It's an institutional thing, tourists come to NYC and they grab a slice from Ray's or Smiling in Brooklyn and they love it because it's good quality and it's cheap and they can walk around while eating it.

I've changed my mind...it really kinda is that good.

No it isn't faggot. I've lived in 4 states, currently suburban New York City. Most flyover states have only chain pizza places like Pizza Hut, Domino's, Papa Johns. New York pizza is much better than those.

>> No.11779641

>>11779622
most places don't have slice pizza, which i genuinely think is the thing that sets pizza in NYC apart. flyover places have neapolitan pizza or decent pizza places, but not the kind of places you can walk into drunk at midnight and grab a slice to keep you from hurling on the subway.

I never got this. Britbong here. Okay, so fair enough, that would be like £1 in this country, but you can get an entire 10 inch pizza for about 4 or 5 pounds. In America, you have to pay like $20 for an entire pizza of the same size. Seems like a bad situation, economically.

Dominos and Papa Johns and etc try to push the same prices here but only retards buy from them. Most people get cheap pizza from the dodgy takeaway near them which is usually ran by Iranians or some ethnics shit. In all honesty, most are shitty, but the ones that are good are great, and cheap as fuck too.

eh, i mean, sure. you can get a full pizza in nyc for like ~$18, which has like 8 slices, so sure it's more economical to get a full pie instead of a slice.

but think about it like popping into a kebab place on the high street and grabbing a bite on your way home. you don't want a full meal, you just want a gyro or whatever you brits call it.

also the quality of an nyc pizza joint is gonna be LOADS better than Dominos or Papa Johns. most places make their own dough, for one, and use okay ingredients.

It's only 15$ for a regular pie at my local pizza place. Also don't forget that a NY pizza is 18" in diameter, which is a lot bigger than the 10" size you find in most of Europe. A full NY pie isn't meant for one person.

Basically, a NY pizza is a pizza with a relatively thin crust on the bottom and enough cheese to cover the entire top without turning it into a sliding and/or soggy mess. And it should be just firm enough that it doesn't have erectile dysfunction.
You grab a slice and hold it with one hand; No problem eating while you stand or walk.

The only thing I disliked about the personal sized pizzas I had when I was in Italy was that even though they were 8" smaller in diameter the center 1 - 2" were generally soggy. Whenever I cut it into slices and held one up that first 1 - 2" would always flop down.
