Why? It's just membrane and vitrious fluid, or however you're supposed to spell the liquid in your eye

Look at that intense eye. Mate, Feed, Kill, Swim, repeat.

supposedly it's a delecacy in China and they reserve it for the honored guest

Yes and the Chinese are also massive sociopaths that will run you down by accident and then reverse over you on purpose

Ate one before. They don't have a specific taste. The texture of them is like that of an oyster with more liquid.

Yeah ever since a court ruled helping a person shows admission of guilt, the Chinese now aim to kill. If it looks like they might hit you, they'll try to run you over at top speed.

Shit is hilarious.

You can try but don't think you'll acquire a taste for it. Tried a cow's and it's exactly what I expected.

On a trip to NYC, I ate the eye of a live carp in bean curd at a Chinatown restaurant just for the lulz. It just tasted like the sauce but was hard, like a chunk of firm chicken cartilage. Fuck em' if they couldn't take a joke.

I ate a red snapper eye for kicks when I worked at a fishing lodge. Fucking thing stuck to my teeth like melted plastic, made me feel how a dog looks with peanut butter stuck to its mouth. Gross and infuriating

>> No.11769833

Used to like them when I a wee little shit. Didnt make much out of it; shits food. I remember the filling being gelatinous with a rough collagen core; it felt almost like a seed, shit's weird now thinking about it. It's gooey and liquidy when prepared as soup, whereas if it was fried then it's kinna dry.

Havent eat it in like 20+ years; cant stand fish altogether actually now.

is there a difference between a mammal eye vs a fish eye? seems like eating fish eyes is common, not sure if any culture regularly eats eyes of cows etc.

>> No.11769901

Apparently the middle bit of an eye is very hard and crunchy. Difficult to eat.

>> No.11769932

There's a gross crunchy part that kills a part of your soul if it gets to stuck to any part of your mouth

>> No.11769977

When it's salmon season here on the west coast I buy whole fish with the heads on them. I end up just grilling them or making fish head soup with them. The eyes are just very gelatinous and super fishy smelling.

It's ok. Not that tasty, but kind of fun. WIth fish eyes you get to spit out a hard ball, too.

well yeah, they lost their original racial purity 1500 years ago. the Han Chinese are different from today china man.

I've eaten tons eye pig eyes at a whole hog BBQ. They are amazing, but I can't see them being an every day thing, I think the rarity of actually getting one made them a bit more exciting.

Does it cook in any way when you roast the whole hog or is it basically the same as eating it raw?

if you fry a trout, eyes included, they taste great
the pupils turn white and the rest turns black, spoon out the head meat, pop out the eyes, and eat them together.

Would explain why in all those webm footage of chinese accidents, they tend to keep driving after flattening people with their vehicles

It was always cooked. These were several hour long slow cooked hogs. The eyes usually absorbed a good bit of the smokiness too, it was like smokey pork flavored jello, but in the best way possible.

In central Asia I had curried goats head.
Eyes aren't really appealing texture or flavour wise.
Sheep eyes are the same

I had some dishes in south East Asia with fish eyes, terrible.

Wouldn't recommend

fish eyes taste of nothing but a very thin layer of meat encased in gelatin and a hard ball inside of it that you have to spit out.

And the Chinese cook with literal sewage waste. They're not the type of people I'd draw inspiration from for dishes.
