I'm pretty sure their sub count has either stagnated or declined because I remember them being at 7 million back in 2012-2013 and they're still at barely over 7 million right now. I remember when they were selling out to doing literal ads for Square Enix for FFXV and now they have nothing because they offer little to nothing after their tv show flopped and Harley's gaming channel flopped hard because he's as interesting as a Jew outside of a bank.

Selling out was honestly a really sensible decision. Either way their popularity was going to fizzle out when they started to run out of ideas or the novelty of big piles of food wore off.

It was pretty smart and self aware to heavily monetize while they still had the attention. I don't think there is anything they could have done to sustain viewership and interest on an ongoing basis.
