The precision and consistency of the sous-vide just proves how worthless of a field culinary arts are. Centuries of knowledge and wisdom can all be thrown out the window because now any Joe Schmoe with an iPhone can cook the perfect steak from the comfort of their couch. Similar to how the spirit and essence of the combustion engine was invalidated by Tesla, the spirit and essence of traditional cooking is now invalidated by a $35 Chinese heating rod.

It's a worthless meat Boling unitasker. Making a good steak takes 2 tries to learn even the most retarded of hillbillies can do it. Only this generation of zoomers is retarded enough to need a meat boiling trinket to make the most basic of meals

95% of 4chan has nothing better to do than hover over a pot of boiling meat with a stopwatch in their hand. Just let them have this one, meaningless thing.

>Perfect steak
Steak is the easiest thing to cook. That's why every wight skinned bird turd has an opinion on the best way to cook steak. It's because no matter what you do to it, it'll turn out delicious, even if you are a colossal uneducated fuck up (for example, read any steak thread on 4chan). Also the unitasker meme needs to die. Alton's show is extremely outdated and he was never a great cook. Unitaskers have a place in every professional and aspiring chef's kitchen.

Congrats. You now have ingested a buncha leached carcinogens and chemicals that you boiled from that plastic.

I seriously wonder about that. Does it really happen?

Where do all these meme spouting retards actually come from? Not just this thread but also in serious threads there is always at least one mentally challenged child that needs to insert some stupid quip, one liner or out of context meme. /ck/ used to be a really good place for discussion of cooking. At some point it switched away to a general discussion about food which was still fine.
But this invasion of memesters makes the board barely usable. I don't want /ck/ to become another /tv/. But it probably will. Time to look for an alternative I guess.

I don't have the plastic phobia like many in this place seem to have, but to leave my food floating around firmly packed inside a heated up plastic bag for hours on end, does have me worried a bit.

Yeah, it's horrendous. I've always primarily blamed /r9k/, but the sheer amount of stupid in here cannot just come from that place alone.

I wish there was a better alternative. I made some desserts in glass jars which worked well, but plastic is kinda irreplaceable in sous vide.
Maybe putting the meat in something like parchment paper and placing that in the bag would work? Or is there also some kind of shit in parchment paper that could leech into the meat?

You know what buying a 100 dollar sous vide did for me? It made me learn how to properly cook a steak in a cast iron pan. It has more utility use than anything with a few advantages. Doing a bag of potatoes or carrots and especially parsnips cooked wit nothing but some butter and salt are phenomenal. The other plus is being able to use science to transmute inferior cuts of meat. Such as a 24-72 chuck steak that you can turn into a poor mans filet mignon. It's fun to use on occasional but it's definitely not a staple i my cooking.

B-but anon it says BPA free! Meanwhile, there are a host of BPA analogs that function the same.
