yes its great, after you have finished cooking something just put it away, no cleaning required, this is called "seasoning". every subsequent meal will contain a particle of every other meal you've ever cooked, hehe

>> No.11743896

i want a cast iron but my roommate would just borrow it and ruin it

Im such a brainlet that I cant tell if you are joking or not

>> No.11743943

The best thing about it is, after you sear your steak and let it rest, you trow some onions, little bit of red wine and homemade bbq sauce on the pan and scrape the pan integrating the meat juices into the sauce

>>11743366
Great for searing. Great for transferring from the stove to the oven. Great for the oven.

>made even more clear through picture and ending with "hehe"
>still not sure
Except for literally stating it was sarcasm, I don't think he could possibly make it more clear.

This is obvious bait, but fuck it.

You should have three pans: one large nonstick something-or-other, one stainless steel pan, and one cast-iron pan. Use your nonstick pan for anything relatively low-heat. Use your cast-iron pan for high-heat stuff and anything non-acidic. Use your stainless pan for anything acidic, making sauces, and anything that you personally have trouble making with cast-iron.

You don't need a non-stick. I cook virtually all my meals and haven't owned one in 15 years. A properly seasoned cast iron will do the job w/o the poisoning and if it's acid based the stainless will be fine.

I added salt and pepper to mine but all my food sticks and burns to the metal. which seasonings do you recommend? Also why does it weigh 500 lbs it feels like my elbow is going to snap

You don't need a separate simulator that would be recursive since we're already in one.

took me awhile to get used to mine but I really like it now. You can't just throw food on it while its cold like you could on a non-stick.

>> No.11747173

PAN SHOT!!!

>> No.11747213

It's better at sticking your food to it

>> No.11747563

Coat the inside with some cooking oil like canola, heat it up until it starts smokeing, keep it at that point for a few minutes while you keep wiping the inside of the pan with an oiled paper kitchen tissue. That is good enough as a preliminary seasoning. Now go make some fried potatoes or pancakes in your cast iron pan, that improves the seasoning still further.

>> No.11748008

>>11743366
I found I like stainless steel better.
It heats up faster and holds on to its seasoning better.

>> No.11748257

Memes aside there's a million different sites and videos giving completely contradictory advice on cooking with and caring for a cast iron pan

Even just for cooking bacon I can find people saying to start with a hot pan with oil, people saying start dry with a cool pan, people saying start with a hot dry pan, etc.

I just want to fry some bacon and make some smash burgers with this cast iron pre-seasoned pan I got for cheap

>> No.11748629

For certain things, yes. You don't need to be autistic about it though, and normalfags have definitely overrated them
