Also, reminder, in many states you don't have to be a Costco member to buy alcohol at Costco, by law. Costco is by far the best place to buy whisky in terms of price, and they have some really nice single malts and some nice bourbons up to about the $60 per 750ml pricepoint.

Teachers tastes good enough and has enough smoke and sweetness, and tastes good enough that most people dont question it when its poured from the right bottle. elijah craig's $30/750ml i believe, fucking great stuff. buffalo trace is a bit too sweet, eagle rare's a bit too harsh, craig strikes a very nice balance, very nutty. i also like old forester 100, not sure where that's available (it's like $24 tho)

but yeah, every tasting i've done i've preferred another bourbon. i tend to drink them neat, so generally i'll prefer the ones i can sip. never was into rare neat, it was much more rye forward than anything else with the oakiness being almost unpleasant. but it did well as a mixer

traditional whiskies are distilled from various types of grains and then aged in oak casks. you can by some unaged whiskies now to see what it tastes like right off the still, but those are usually not interesting unless you're a distiller.
canadian whiskey is usually made from rye. tennessee whiskey is slightly different from bourbon. it has to go through charcoal filtration and be from tennessee. george dickel is a better example than jack daniels.

This is really delicious for $20 at WinCo Foods. Full-bodied, complex, flavorful and balanced. Not as sweet as most bourbons, with a nice harmony of char, rye, umami and sweetness.

Started my infinity blend today. Uigeadail, Lagavulin 16, Laphroaig 10, Macallan 12, Aberlour A'bunadh, Knob Creek Rye, Wild Turkey 101, Evan Williams Black Label and Dewar's White Label have gone into it so far. It's got a super delicious blend of peat and sweet so far.
