seriously? yes, i'm currently a Junior at a big uni and everyone drinks whatever, bud, busch, natty, miller, coors, etc. I drink a shit ton of whatever the fuck is available.

My favorite beer though i can't even get, spent a year studying abroad in Salzburg and got used to some of the best beer in the world, but I still love some light beer, perfect for shooting the shit with your buddies at the bar, watching the game, or something refreshing while cutting the grass

Also I don't really like craft beers, it's nice to drink one here and there, but they are very impractical to get drunk off of, and you look like a faggot going to a bar and ordering some fancy gay beer

Do you not understand how percents work?

If your light lager has 4% alcohol by volume (as most do), and my IPA has 7.5% that means it has almost 90% more alcohol, so one pint of IPA is as much alcohol as 1.9 pints of light lagers.
Meanwhile, a lot of the best beer gets even higher than that in alcohol. I personally drink a lot of Imperial stouts that are in the 10-12% ABV range. Drinking one 12% stout is like drinking three light beers

I doubt this is true, also keep in mind that a much higher percent of good Euro beer is available in America than vice verse. I don't even need to leave my city to get a pretty good idea that America has it much better. anyone anywhere that has tried a lot of different beer recognizes that America has it best. But yes I have been to Europe and drank a lot of beer when I was there, according to my Untappd I have tried 152 unique European beers from 16 different countries, and I have only been tracking that for a few years

You have to admit, light lager is at least reminiscent of piss. No one would obviously confuse the two, but light lager is basically just water with a hint of piss flavor and a lot of carbonation.

Like if you took a glass of 5% pee and 95% water and carbonated it, you could probably pass it off as Bud

Thats some backwards logic. I think its precisely because most of us have never drank piss that that would work. If all of us were intimately familiar with the taste of dilute piss its unlikely that would work, but for a normal person our concept of the taste of dilute piss is vague enough that it could work

California is literally top tier. Stone have opened in Berlin and are thriving there; I'm not even a fan of theirs but it's good to see them show Germany what modern beer can be. There isn't a single weak region of California, whether we're taking SF Bay, Central Coast, San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County, or the far north. Each one can directly complete by itself with most states, and taken as a whole there is no single geopolitical area in the world that comes close to the quality and breadth of styles. New breweries attain top flight status within a matter of years because of the knowledge sharing and collaboration that occurs between the producers. Whether we're taking West coast, haze, sours, or stouts, California is home to multiple contenders for the title of best in class. Nobody else can say that.

It's at least better than the SF Bay area, which you call "above average". Let's see, there's Monkish (S rank haze merchant), Mumford, Highland Park, Boomtown, Brouwerij West, Smog City, Beachwood Blendery, and El Segundo, to name a few. To call LA "below average" is 100% flyover cope and hate.

nah, LA is not a great beer town. Like its a massive fucking place so of course there are some good breweries. Unfortunately LA and California has a whole just doesn't have great beer culture. Good beer is way more niche than it is in more northern areas where people just drink more beer overall. California's obsession with wine really hurts it here. I am always struck when I go to California how much worse the beer selections at restaurants, bars and grocery or liquor stores are than I expect given that there are plenty of good breweries around

Actually, the state of California has about the same number of people as the upper midwest. But they drink much less beer as a portion of what they drink and drink less overall (see all of those maps from earlier in this thread)

In California you drink / cop cans at the brewery or you locate one of the rare-ish craft bottle shops. Macro distributors own the common grocery-liquor store game out here, and the best you're likely to find at a large chain is whatever breweries are distributed by Stone.
Honestly your best bet for low effort craft beer finds in California is the local Whole Foods.
