If you break something down to a handful of ingredients, then yeah, it's boring as hell. All of it is - Italian's just tomato and garlic. French is just butter and parsley. Spanish is just paprika and paprika.

A solid spicy, meat-filled tamale is a wonderful thing. Boeuf Bourguignon is my go-to feed-a-billion-people-in-the-dead-of-winter company food. Italian - North or South - has so many variations, and so many more possibilities that even if you stray from the recipe, it's hard to make something that doesn't taste good... and if you've been to an izakaya and didn't leave happy, sated, and drunk, you might need to see a doctor.
