Those dates are pretty much worthless. Anymore, it's just a marketing scam to get you to toss out perfectly good food, so you buy more. Unless the seal of the can is compromised, canned goods have a shelf life of decades. The Hormel website says their canned meats and foods are good for 20 years unless the can is damaged. (you have to dig for it though, they don't make it easy.)
