i fucking love hummus, and i often made it myself, its easy as fuck to make, im baffled why people would buy that garbage in the store, and i dont even have a good kitchen robot, just some shitty cheap blender.
just buy sesame tahini, can of chickpeas, quality olive oil, shitlaods of garlic and blend that shit toegether with some squeezed lemon. i usually add some hot paprika or chilli seeds for spice too.
but anyway, my point was, that i used to eat hummus quite often, but started keto this summer, and decided to switch the chickpeas for roasted eggplant and try that baba ganoush thingy. its pretty meh, definitely worse than normal hummus and would probably never try it again, but i guess its a decent sibstitude if you really are craving something hummus-like

Hummus is delicious...the quality generaly available in the american bar/restaurant(excludeing the nicer middle eastern places) and grocery is incredibly lacking....white people fuck shit up too much, they just seem to open a can and blend with the chickpeas which leaves the hummus too heavy and chucky(plus theyre sualy to lazy to take the skins off the beans)....even if you buy canned beans you MUST rub off the kins and cook the beans further...otherwise you wont get a silky and fluffy texture

a realy good topping for me is hard boiled egg, onion, and cummin, especialy if the hummus is fresh and hot, one of lifes better breakfasts or lunches

anyway for the non-retarded, i made hummus last night

3 tbsp tahini
1 can chickpeas
2 tbsp chickpea water from can (for extra flavour)
olive oil
half a lemon's worth of juice
garlic
salt
smoked paprika
cumin
red pepper flakes
chuck in blender, done

you can add more water if you like it creamier, but i think it turned out pretty well. has a very mild but pleasant spiciness to it, that other anon was right to say it tastes better when it's homemade
