This is something you saw on a travel show. Food rules where you can only have milk in the mornings is 1950s mentality, and that a shake can only be had as dessert and if you're not dieting. Grow up. If "barista" jobs were hardcore Italian traditional, people would be standing up at your counter, paying extra to sit down or outside, and espresso would be served with a lemon twist....and people wouldn't tip you, and you'd make only $10/day because you would be the only person allowed to operate the thousands of dollars machine in a family business, not a real paid employee.

It all depends on what's up in a person's day, but ultimately, they're throwing money at you for you to make them what they want, and customer satisfaction is why you're being paid to be there. If the job offends your sensibilities, you're two weeks in. You could easily just stop showing up.

That said, I'm taking this bait and jamming it through both cheeks.

My morning coffee is absolutely a latte, flat white, or at least a shot of espresso with a bit of cream. I've been blessed with the ability to digest lactose, as well as the abilities to grab beans at wholesale prices, and machines at a heavy discount. I make use of these gifts.

If I'm going out in the evening - for dinner or just coffee, I'll do much of the same, maybe a cappuccino. It's like dessert for me. If I've got a real sweet tooth happening, I'll get/make a mocha.

Mid-day/afternoon though, as rare as I do it, is just a black drip or americano. It's not for sustenance or warming, it's just a shot of nitrous to help me coast to the next nourishing thing in my day.

Tell you what, I'll shut up and drink my crack if you shut up and serve it.
