Chronic inflammation in any part of the body increases cancer risk, due to release of cytokines, interleukins, and growth factors

Rapid cell growth and death means rapid DNA replication.
Rapid DNA replication means more and more chances for cancer to arise.

So it's not a carcinogen, but it's like rolling the dice 10 times instead of 1 time. It just increases your overall odds.

Conversely, this is why people who do fasting have lower rates of cancer.
Slower cell growth = slower DNA replication = fewer chances of errors in replication or activating oncogenes

The /pol/ "obesity is just a blacks and Mexicans problem" meme is weird as shit. There's this really vocal collection of anons who feel the need every once in a while to come up with a completely wrong alternate reality just to avoid admitting there's ever anything less than flattering about their own demographic. Honestly I'd think you'd want to own up to the truth in a case like this since it's really fucked up what's been done to us and our health in recent decades to where that huge a portion are outright broken in body and subject to horrible disease (e.g. onset of full blown type 2 diabetes and complete loss of ability to process blood sugar resulting in them pissing out gallons and ending up in a coma) and sudden death at the drop of a hat (your heart is not meant to work with a 500 lb body).

The difference doesn't really matter when you're hitting percentages higher than a quarter of your population, they're all completely ridiculous at this point. It's like differentiating between the predicted lifespan remaining for someone who's 100 vs. 110. It doesn't really make a difference because both are well past the curve of normal / common age groups where you can make reasonable predictions still. Or by way of another analogy, it's like being at 200% in Smash Bros. vs. 300%. It doesn't really make much of a difference either way, both mean you're going to die if someone touches you.

I've worked with some cancer even though I was never in an actual oncology ward.
Steve was probably pretty much fucked either way, but some people who go for the crystals and snakeoil could have been saved if they'd taken the cytostatics or radioation instead. And that's a fucking problem.
Having people die because some shithead wanted to sell kale juice on his website. When their family members know this is happening and a powerless to stop it it's even worse. What do you say to those people when their 51-year-old mother dies from something fairly treatable like breast cancer?

Cancer wastes you exactly like that. Many things do actually. Just being immobilised and having reduced appetite can do a lot of it.

Yeah but what you fail to mention is "saved" means having a 30% chance to make it 5 more years after brutal treatments costing $500,000+, pirate. I'd rather die immediately than give you thieves 1 penny. Go coil up in your den of serpents.

Yeah. Obviously scamming cancer patients is the lowest of the low, but it just emphasizes how incredibly bad mainstream cancer treatment is that even completely ineffectual bullshit is on par with it just from the lack of added harm alone. Surgery's great if it works for whatever variety of cancer you're dealing with, but a lot of the chemical based approaches to cancer treatment are a horrific trade-off where you're getting some short term improvement (with some of the worst pain and suffering imaginable as part of the process) while creating conditions that will make things even worse in the coming years.

Korea is notorious for their high rates of stomach cancer. Too much salt and pickled foods does that to you.

Thx for agreeing with me, you apparently know what you're talking about. Just went through the process of agonizing over the pros and cons of the post op chemo/radiation proposals with a loved one. Shit sucks any way you look at it.

I thought it was all the salt they eat that gives slants stomach cancer. It dissolves their insides. But it also shows that the link between sodium and heart disease is tenuous.

It's unfortunately the same even outside of cancer for chronic illness in general. The chronic illnesses associated with bad immune system reactions for example tend to be treated with immunosuppressants or anti-inflammatory shit like prednisone, both of which are absolutely setting yourself up for worse medical problems in the near future. Immunosuppressants end up making it much more likely you'll get cancer if you don't have it already (and that's far from its only bad side effect), and prednisone kind of dampens inflammation in the short term only to leave your body sort of thinned out (in terms of durability, not body weight) and worn up so that any future inflammation will tear through you that much easier.

wow it's almost like you're going to inevitably die and you need to make choices about the length and quality of your life while in a futile attempt to delay the inevitable

Sort of, except when you're in your 20s or 30s you would normally have a very long time to go before inevitably dying. And many chronic diseases have high incidence rates among young adults. So it's not really the same as people in their 70s dealing with different choices for delaying a death that's statistically in their near future before even factoring in any health problems they have just from age alone.

Kimchi has a ton of salt in it. But interestingly the connection between salt and stomach cancer seems to be specific to certain salt preserved foods rather than to salt in itself i.e. no similar connection has been found among people who don't eat those certain salt preserved foods but do eat large amounts of salt otherwise.

I believe stomach cancer rates are also very high in China and Japan so it's not just the kimchi, though I suppose otherwise their diets are all similar.

It's all relative. In terms of the age of the universe any human age from a month old to a hundred years old is near death. A more typical approach to time judgements in everyday living as a normal human being is to use proportions of how much time you've already lived. If you're 30 years old for example you're generally expected to live between another one and two times the amount of time you've already lived. That is a lot in that particular sense. Most adults I know of would acknowledge the amount of time they've lived so far, in total, seems like a long time since it's literally the longest time you've personally ever experienced. You might say the past few years / past decade seems to have sped up and gone by much quicker compared to life in earlier years, but that's a sensible assessment too since a static length of one year is going to become a progressively tinier fraction of your total lived time as you age.
