It just imparts flavor and aroma to the coffee itself it's not for a nic fix but the tastes can yield the same feeling and now rather than a few puffs you have as much coffee as you can make with what you got for the same price. Also depending on the quality(shit cigarettes need not apply) some ash in the coffee so long as it's not giant ass flakes ain't to bad flavor wise.
I know it sounds weird but char is just carbon formation on meat and that same shit adds flavor to meat that people just love but they wouldn't eat it solo and people like the literal taste of wood in their alcoholic products but they would never eat the wood itself. It's just an accentuating flavor that alone tastes like ass but when mellowed and tempered through small amounts versus big proportions of what its added to it yields odd but nice flavors and accompaniments.

The sheep(s) is/are boiled on giant(s) cauldron(s) for hours, along with vegetables and other spices. There's an italian saying (don't know if it's exclusive to that place though) that roughly translates like this "from the pig, nothing is thrown away". Well, for those farmers it was the same but for the sheep. And they were goddamn right. That thing tasted great, head included.
