Wa (Washington) La (Los Angeles) - this is a reference to the "culinary corridor" that runs down the western US coast from Washington state to LA.
There has historically been a great deal of controversy over precisely where in Washington the route begins - some say Seattle, but this is not on the coast and the true aficionados know the true (unspoken) starting point is the Tokeland Hotel and Restaurant near the Tokeland RV park in Tokeland, Washington.
From there one goes south along the culinary path through world-famous Astoria then along the Pacific Coast Highway (historic Hwy 101) to Tilamook (and their famous cheeses), Otter Rock, Seal Rock, Wakonda Beach, Thor's Well, Eureka, Santa Rosa, Sausalito, San Francisco, San Jose, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Los Angeles, and all points in between.
It is said that one can sample over 487 unique ethnic delicacies along this route and contract several rare amoebas. Gordon Ramsay tried the route once but fell ill from a bad chalupa from the Aztec Grill/Chevron station in McKinleyville and was unable to continue the journey.
>"wa la"
